Would like input on impressions of medical and midwifery schools/education in NZ? How does it compare to other countries you've lived in? What regard are NZ trained docs and midwives given when they travel/work in other countries? Is the training held in high regard elsewhere?
I am in the US, planning to emigrate (recently approved as PR), considering med school or midwifery school in NZ. Here med school and subsequent 80 hour/week four year residency is a grueling process capable to consuming individuals and families. They usually emerge as good clinicians but often lack good bedside manner and the ability to really hear patients due to time constaints.
