Hi there, time to come out into the open, rather than lurking around.
Job offer received, meds done, police check applied for, freight forwarder booked (cheaper option), ticket paid for (may need moving of course), just biting my nails now that I will get a general work visa!
I think I need someone out there to say "There, there, it'll all be alright!!"

It'll turn out good lass you watch. General work visa. What job offer have you got, as i am here on a work visa, unlike most who are here on PR. Is the job on the ISL? cos if it is its a formality believe me.

Anyway, welcome to our world.

Kim

Thanks for the support, no it's not on either shortage list, but Immigration Services here and in NZ didn't seem to think it would be too much of a problem as long as the employer sent the supplementary form and backed it up with the reasons for appointing someone from outside NZ.
My daughter and her family are already NZ residents so I'm hoping that will help.

Thank you.

Some background? Mmmm.....Well I don't know how much to tell. I'm coming over on my own, to live in Cambridge, near my daughter and her husband and two children. They've been in NZ for three years, and after visiting three times, I decided to give it a go without waiting to get family sponsorship.

I love the country and the pace of life, the attitudes, which are generally as I recall the UK once being like, and the lovely friendly welcoming people.

Leaving behind friends and family (including the other two grandchildren) is very emotional of course - even for someone like me who's travelled a lot, but I have to keep focussed, or I won't be packed in time!

I'm doing it on a shoe-string, and one of the biggest shocks I've had has been the price and attitude of international movers! Do they assume that if you're leaving the country you must have won the Lottery? So I'm shipping using a freight forwarder, which is working out at about a quarter of the cost - I'll let you know how it works out.
