Well, for those of you wondering whether to get jobs first and apply for EOI once you have jobs... this may just be the way to go...

I spent an hour on the phone to immigration today and was basically told that if we had come here on visitors visa and THEN got the job and THEN submitted an EOI we'd be rushed through to PR..

BUT.. because we submitted our EOI prior to getting jobs or coming here (we submitted end July and picked 4 Aug with 120 pts no job) we are basically being put to the back of the queue - or in the immigration lady's words "well, as you now have a 1 yr work visa you have plenty of time to do the ITA and get PR"!!! Well, that's not what we want! We want the security of knowing that we're here for good .. not a "wait and see" from immigration...

Jeez.. I'm seething... and a little squiffy so pardon the VENT!

Grrrrr :wah

Hi Moorf

I can see what she is saying, but it really doesn't seem fair or logical to me....

From a Processing Point of view, I think it'd be more effective to get people in your position sorted asap because you are then completely out the system. Otherwise, any time any single officer looks down a list there are loads of people there who needn't be, each such person must take a few seconds each time to review, then a decision - (do nothing) then continue

Don't suppose I have explained this well, but its a standard Time Management thing, if something can be dealt with now, then Do It.

I guess you have to grin and bear it...sorry

alex :?

You hit the nail on the head BBQ... that's pretty much what I said to the immigration officer - deal with us, get us sorted and we're out of the way... that was greeted with... silence!!

Oh well....

hi moorf. So sorry to hear that big hitch you are all of a sudden burdened with.

My suggestion is you email them and get a second opinion or appeal your case. Sometimes people tend to listen more when they are reading. Plus you can say things without being interrupted.

Good luck!

you can also tell your case officer your concern about the new citizenship law taking effect 01 january 2005. (from 3 years to 5 years!!!)

tell her/him that you want to be a kiwi as soon as possible. An appeal to his/her emotions might do the trick.

Moorf,

Sorry to hear about that - I thought they'd update your EOI with the new points if you had a job - or that's what would be logical to me.

The good thing is that you're there and you have a case-worker on it (and you have their contact details ha!) :laugh

It seems abit of a cop out to say that because you have a visa you can just wait for PR - you'd fulfill the criteria for being pushed through quicker in the UK.
I'm really sorry your case worker sound a bit of a jobsworth. Or possibly in the wrong job!!

BADGER HER A*** OFF eventually she'll cave and sort you just to get some peace.

Hope things speed up it must be blinkin annoying to be there and working etc but having to wait even longer.

Chin Up You'll get it eventually and you are there now so thats a plus!

Love Linda xxx

Why is this all such a difficult maze - do they want us or not?

Makes me wish I'd waited now. Have you calmed down yet Moorf??

at times it does seem they don't really want anyone! we have a complicated london-life to wind up, which we are doing without much fuss and on schedule, then immigration holds us up??? we've already know that we'll have to redo hiv tests etc. its a bit worrying. can't imagine anything worse than being stuck in london, no house, no car, no job and just waiting. expensively. worst comes we'll just go over on own initiative -

doing the maths its diff to see how nz immig can possibly achieve their required levels of immigs under the current regime.

Hey Moorf, its not really a hitch just an aggrevation. If you were in London with Warren waiting to start a job and were reviewing the email above you'd be thinking something along the lines of
"lucky beggers, what they grumbling about, their there aren't they, and the application is now a sure thing."
Its because its a sure thing they can stop worrying about it and put it to the back burner to give time to those who are waiting to start jobs and speed those along. If you had been given a chance at these circumstances a few months back you'd have jumped at them. Having said that waiting for something isn't one of the things I do well either so I sympathise. cheer up Veronica

And the most frustrating thing is that you get different stories from different people. Give them a few calls, hassle them, they will sort it quicker to try and get rid of you. Oh can't believe I said that it sounds awful but do keep onto it.

Hello Dave and Sandra. They do want us really, they make it difficult so only those people with determination and strength of character succeed!!! They then know that we are the type likely to make a go of being an immigrant, that we have the 'right' profile, its a hidden test really. :yes

We never hear from people who put in the hundreds of bogus claims on this forum, but I am sure that given the many countries around the world that apply that they have had to put in all the checks to counter whats gone on before. Unfortunately thats one of the things that takes the time.

I know it was in the paper recently that a lot of people over the last few years were applying from some of the asian countries with qualifications they had got from the internet :exit and they were having to sort that out. All this stuff means more work for them, as I understand it they are quite snowed under at the NZIS in London and here.

Mind how you go Moorf, we dont want you getting labled as a whinging pom.
Seriously though, it does sound a bit crazy when you think of the hoops you have jumped through to please them before getting out there. But, at least you are virtually guarenteed PR so dont need to sweat on it.
One would think that those who follow the rules to the letter would get preferencial treatment.
