Sorry if this has been ask time and again before... Do UK PC/Laptops work OK in NZ, I think I read somewhere that the only compatability issue concerns modems for which you can buy an adapter - is that right?

All PCs have switch in the back to change the elec. supply, while in laptops the switch is automatic. Just get the three pin thingys and you are okay. Don't know about your cable/adsl modem

I bought my HP laptop in the US, and the modem worked fine in the UK, so I think it will be OK in New Zealand.
I got my ADSL modem from the ISP in England, so I don't know about those.
The biggest problem might be the dollar sign on your keyboard. Does it have one, or has it been replaced by a pound sign? If its a problem, you will need to change the keyboard software, but I've no idea how.

Windows XP
Start-->Control Panel-->Regional and Language Options
click "Languages" tab
click "Details"
select Input Language English (New Zealand) - US
click "Add" to select keyboard "US"
click "OK" to close dialog boxes
for earlier versions of Windows:
(steps may vary slightly)
Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->Keyboard
click "Language" tab
click "Properties"
select English (US) or United States-International
click "OK" to close dialog boxes

you should be able to use your desktop pc/laptop anywhere in the world..
The only thing you need to worry is the adapter's voltage (in some rare case they're not auto 110-240v)

The only non compatibilty will be the mains plug - either use an adaptor or change the plug.
Don't change the keyboard layout / input language settings on your laptop - it will change what some of the keys do relative to what is written on them. You should have a dollar sign as [shift] 4.
ADSL and Dial up modems should work fine - the standards are the same as the UK, as are phone sockets. Cable modems - don't know but there isn't a lot of cable in NZ so I wouldn't worry about it.
