but now all i seem to be doing is surfing this forum desperately seeking good news. pathetic. anyone else out there -
we could be a feature in marieclaire - raring-to-go wannabee immigrants with too much time ON their hands and too much mouse IN their hands.
this can be so frustrating.

Hello, my name is Diny and I'm a forumaholic.
Leslie ..... I make the big mistake of leaving my pc logged onto the internet all day. Every time I pass it I just have a quick peek to see who's saying what.
I use to be such an outdoor girl too :no

my husband is currently balancing between immigrating and eternal happiness or divorce and eternal happiness.
for me its the not knowing ANYTHING, the abject loss of control over ones very life when you finally understand where it is you really really want to be. hope the nz immig people get a perverse thrill from our collective anxiety.
they should have a special category/ 5 extra points for people who lived there waaaaaay back and still want to return. and if they had a relationship with a kiwi and it didn't work out there should be a sympathy +10. mind, they might have -5 for people who spend too much time on the web. could this count as work experrience???

Diny, you are hilarious!
I find myself sitting in front of this "Alice in Wonderland" magic mirror everyday also. Instead of going thru stuff and getting rid of things so that when we get our house up for sale, people can actually see thru the clutter and get a feel for the actual house! :eek
My problem is, I have to vivid of an imagination. :angel I can already see me in Helen and Warren's place, except in Akaroa. So in my mind we have already sold our house and DH has a job and we have moved our family there!!!
So quit enticing me and let me get some work done!! ;)

Lynden I'm right there with you on the edge of that cliff - except mine's just a tad easier to bear cos I've got 8 months to go til I'm 40 and I haven't got a dog:laugh
House is :hopeso sold, awaiting news of date for Exchange of Contract, have a flat which I am trying to hold off signing a 6 month lease, still awaiting ITA which was selected 18/8, still awaiting NZQA which was sent off two months ago. House is a tip with stuff everywhere ready to go into two different directions. Can't book shippers cos nowhere to go etc etc - oh just shoot me now.

Being 40 is great girls. Sort of liberating I found. I want to be an eccentric (sp) old woman when I grow up but I'm told I'm well on my way already :nice1

40? No worries - I agree - kind of liberating. Old age is a destination I definately intend reaching.
Here's one of my favourite poems .... I like to think Jenny Joseph wrote it about me (which of course she didn't).
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

i want to turn 40 drinking a bottle of yummy nz wine overlooking the beautiful sea, smiling under a sky dripping with stars. its the only thing that could improve the experience and we have all of 9 months to get it together....
imagine celebrating 40 in some stuffy hotel in a crowded euro 'destination' surrounded by items centuries older than self and breathing air that has been breathed countless times. blechhhhhhhh.

Diny, I'm already there and lovin' it !!! dont get scared of getting old, its fun, we can do what we want when we want. I guess the aches and pains will come later, but what the heck, by the way you pinched my poem, I have been hugging that one for some time and thinking "could I dare do those things, maybe not"

It's a wonderful poem isn't it?
Don't worry - I'm not scared about old age - it's just a number after all :nice1
As for daring to be like the lady who wears purple ........ just watch me.
