I've finally booked my daughters flight to come & see us and for her to validate her passport. she is returning a week later so I need to get the re-entry visa sorted - any help on how to do that would be most welcome.
she is travelling with her boyfriend who does not have a visa - does he need one for visiting?? and would they need to go in separate arrival sections when they arrive?
They are flying straight to Welly.
Many thanks & Happy Christmas

Hi KD17
I'm hoping that I answer your question. Have a quick scoot around the NZIS website (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/visit/) for answers on vistor's visas.
It does say that British citizens and other British passport holders who produce evidence of the right to reside permanently in the UK can visit for up to six months without a visa.
On the other question, not sure I'm afraid, but hopefully someone else can.
Good luck

I'm guessing they will be in the same line, as your daughter's visa is not yet validated. This guess is based on the vague memory of there only being two lines, visitors and returning residents. I hope someone can validate this !

Your daughter's boyfriend should be able to enter NZ for 6 months as a visitor if he is travelling on a British passport.
If your daughter is coming over to validate her PR, then she will be in a different queue to him - she can join the residents queue at the airport. When she arrives they will issue her the stamp which gives her the right to leave and return for up to 2 years. (The Residents Returning Visa.)

Does anyone know how long your child has to come to validate their visa once you have been given PR status?

Thanks for your replies, i'll let her know.

If this is the right answer, you have up to 12 months to get to NZ after you receive PR, then as I understand it, if you visit for any length of time and leave NZ you can get the RRV (Returning Residents Visa) as long as you spend up to 6 months in a 2 year period you still have your PR, after then then it's some kind of re-application process which I'm not entirely sure about...
Happy Christmas everyone

Once you have the PR sticker you have 12 months to enter NZ. Then, if you want to get IRRV (which gives you the right to leave and enter forever), you must be in NZ for 183 days in each of the next 2 years after entry.
