unfortunately boulcott st bistro is closed on xmas eve. before OH and I decided to go away for xmas we were really struggling to find places that were going to be open.

if i remember correctly i think logan brown was open though?

Have a look at www.dineout.co.nz if you haven't found it before, only a list of restaurants and a case of take your pick.

Bolton Hotel has a great restaurant, yet to visit but heard it was supposed to be good.

Sizz, Some friends went to the Bolton restaurant a couple of weeks ago and they said if really wasn't very good at all, considering it's a 5 * hotel. :(

We've stayed there and it was fine, but we didn't eat there, preferring to go out and find somewhere a little different. ;)

recently and it was yummy, casual and busy but the food was good. Maybe not were you'd want to go for that special christmas meal though, Justin.

Sorry, I can't help with restaurants on Christmas Eve - indeed check the Yellow Pages or something and just phone around.
We have just recently been in "Kai in the City" - really nice Maori flavoured resto - you could give that one a try.
Otherwise you can always go to McDo !! (LOL)

oh dear. i'm never going to be able to agree with that! no experience of nz hotels yet but in the uk we've eaten in some truly fabulous hotel restaurants. the one that springs to mind immediately is the bistro in hotel du vin (we've tried brighton, birmingham and harrogate - all equally superb)

i'm also hoping the martinborough hotel is going to live up to its reputation for xmas dinner. its new chef is apparently making quite a name for himself.
