Sorry but I couldn't help myself. One of the biggest reasons I left the UK was that to be able to afford a house I had to endure the 1hr40min each way commute to work on First Capital Connect, the Victoria line, the Jubilee line and worst of all the Northern line.
Today OH and I went to scope out our new commute to work. 45 mins each way to walk it (probably a bit less for him as he'll be more central in the CBD). If we ever want to do it by bus its only 10mins.
And it couldn't be more different to London's tubes

Excellent. That's one of the reasons why I want to move. I'm SO looking forward to it now, I just want to be be there, but we'll probably have to wait until early Feb. :(

That is so wonderful! Even when it rains and you are dodging puddles, it has to be a darn sight better than being hit in the back of the knees with a laptop bag or being overpowered by either cologne or BO from someone's armpit! :clap

Ah yes. At 5ft4 I'm definitely armpit level for most blokes on the tube and thats something I wont be missing! I'll take wet and windy any day!
I know the feeling The Hodges. Believe me though it'll be upon you in no time....

Trigirl, that looks fab. Nothing like a bit of nature on the way to work to boost your spirits. Hubby takes the ferry across from West Harbour to Auckland CBD and I imagine that has the same effect. I took the ferry once (normally my hours are outside ferry operating hours) and I just felt soooo relaxed.

Hi Mandy
We've been here over 4 years now and i still find myself stopping during the day when i'm working and just enjoying where we live, as a service tech i can have to go anywhere around wellington/hutt vally, i still always dive around the bays when going to the eastern suburbs and still get a kick out of seeing the city before me when i come back into town the same way.

Mandy, that looks fabulous. Like you, i'm 5'4" and there's nothing worse than dodging umbrellas etc. Enjoy.
