Hi,
Sorry if I keep asking the same type of questions over and over on this one but I need to try and get this straight in my head!
Me and My Partner head off to NZ in Feb, on a Visitors Visa, intending on getting Job Offer and WP. So when we go along to immigration with our job offer letter are we going to be ok with the following:
Basic Qualification - Carpentry and Joinery
2 Yrs experience with Employer References & CV
Income Tax Reciept for this year.
What if the Qualification isn't Level 4? which is required when applying for PR.
Of course will plan to apply for PR later on so then OH will be already working in NZ job by then. But I am concerned weather they will give on WP on the evidence above are the requirements the same weather WP or PR.
Because we are taking the risk I need to feel a bit more confident about this.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Cathy

WP and PR do not have the same qualifying criteria. You may find it very easy to get a WP but PR should be harder - plus a WP is only for one person (no spouse included).
If your ultimate plan is PR then maybe you need to look at that qualifying criteria - qualifications, work experience, age, job offer and work out whether you qualify under the minimum points selection.
For a WP, really you only need a job offer and an employer willing to say you are the best/only candidate for the job (plus providing proof to back it up) - as far as I understand it they are not too worried about your proof of qualifications/experience even though they do ask for details of it on the application form.
It's not an area I know a great deal about - anyone else got a bit more insight?

Hi,
I thought partner (myself) can get an open work visa on the back of OH's WP? Can anyone confirm this is correct. Been together 6 yrs and have proof.
Thanks for answering the question about the WP Quals, I thought it might not be as strict, will have to cross the bridge of PR and how get round this one later on, just need to get the WP for a start.
I have Level 3 NVQS in Travel and Tourism, which I think is Level 4 in NZ so if OH has problems could always fall back on mine. Senior Travel Consultant in on Immediate skills shortage...would you believe, but the job opportunites tend to be AKL, WLG and CHC rather than smaller towns.
Thanks

A WP is only for one person (no spouse included).
A partner can get a visa on the back of a person being granted a work permit. As long as the main applicant meets the criteria then a partner need not have any qualifications.

Thanks Kerry,
I thought this was the case. I will bring my Quals and References just incase there needed or I end up being lead applicant. I'm a Senior Travel Consultant which is on Immediate Jobs shortages, but don't really want to go to the big cities to work, which is where my kind of skills are required.

are you over or under 30. if under you can get a young persons working holiday visa that will give you two years here. no strings attached, then if you chose you can apply for PR once here.

Hi Veronica,
Thanks for the advice but yes we already did WHV back in 2002, now 31 and looking to settle in NZ. Fortunately we don't have too many commitments here so can just rock up and see what happens.
Thanks

Hi Cathy,
Just thought I would add that it can be possible to enjoy a small town lifestyle and live withing the region of big cities, Kapiti Coast and Albany are possible examples that come to mind.
So if working as a Senior Travel Consultant helps, it could be an option without sacrificing the lifestyle you prefer.
