I'm a little desperate for a confirmation of something - I think it's right, but I've got so many permit and visa things running around my head I want to make sure!

My OH is UK citizen - is it true that she's ok to come into NZ for up to 6 months with a return ticket if she doesn't intend to work?

We weren't all that bothered with when we actually arrived in NZ, but I just found out my baby sister is pregnant and is due in mid July (she didn't find out til 2.5 months) so I'm now super keen to get home before then.

We're taking all our documents into NZ House in London on Feb 5, but considering the possible lags in even getting a case officer, I'm trying to work out how practical it is for us to go over before the final decision is given.

My OH has a Phd and if she had a job offer she'd have 210 points in her own right, so I'm hoping NZIS will want her, even without me and my kiwi passport!

Has anyone applied for PR or partnership status from the UK and then awaited the result in NZ?

Any help vastly appreciated

A tourist visa does allow her in for 6 month (extendable to 9 months once here). However, it sounds like you will come over lock stock and barrel when you come? If you do, then you need to be very careful, as it IS a tourist visa and if you roll up with all your worldly goods - its pretty obvious she is here for more than a holiday!.

I'm no expert, so I am sure others will have had more experience in this - but I would just be a bit careful.

Yeah, you'd be fine to do that .. just don't mention her looking for work or staying - it's a holiday and nothing more as far as the immigration officers at the airport are concerned. They don't like people not following the rules!

It is fine for her to try a find a job once she is here - no law against it, once she finds one she can apply for a work permit and then PR.

Good luck,
Dawn

Thank you both for your help! That's exactly what I wanted to know.

We're not bringing the furniture over, and I think after nine years in the UK I can justify shipping our combined worldly posessions in my name only - but we will be careful.

You're both stars, thank you!
