Hi All
We were wondering as its our first NY eve here in Welly is there anything special put on in the harbour like fireworks at midnight? Or do so many people have fireworks that the skies are lit up all over the place.
Or anything worth going to for the Welly/NZ experience?
What are you all doing for New Years Eve? We hope you have a good one :cheers

No idea about Wellington sorry, but I'm going to see The Feelers play at Waihi Beach on NYE. Very handily a friend has a bach in Bowentown, so we can all stagger down the beach to get home!
This was the sole reason for me not going to see Fat Freddys up in Whitianga at the Mercury Rising concert.
My friends always gather somewhere near a beach and some good music for New Years. And we end up lazing on the sands drinking and watching the sunrise. It's a great way to start the year.

Head over to http://wellingtonista.com (http://wellingtonista.com/)
There are several links under "Things to Do" on the left - like recreation wellington, wotzon wellington, a gig guide, theatre info, etc...
There is going to be a free event in civic square called Rythm and Beats (http://www.feelinggreat.co.nz/music/music-events/9357-rhythm-and-beats-new-years-eve-celebrations.php) with 8,000 people expected. That should give you the Welly experience.:D We were going to head into the city, but now it looks like we've got plans up here.

At Civic Square there is some kind of celebration going on: "Rhythm and Beats - New Year's Eve Celebration". At 09:00 pm there is a children's count dowjn and further on there is among others the group Odessa. I have heard them playing last year and I really like them (much less boring stuff than Fat Freddy's Drop). The event is alcohol free and runs from 8:00 pm to 01:00 am.
If you want to join us - just let me know. We will be there with some other immigrants.
Cheers,
Anita

We have had miserable weather here - but Liverpool council has a big firework every year, and it was cancelled 3 days ago due to bad weather! Now, don't get me wrong, but I fully understand the safety aspects, but the slightest excuse and it is off, are they trying to save money?
Wherever you are in the world, have a happy new yaar!!
