Hello to eveyone and a happy new year!
Firstly just wanted to say that the Fourm is an excellent source of information, we've spent most of today reading it getting an idea of what life is like in NZ and the process to get there.
We've only just made the decision to move to NZ so we are right at the start and we'll be asking lots of (probably stupid) questions.

Ok, so to the first question. Does anybody have any tips on completing the EOI? There's an awful lot of questions and informtion required. I checked on the NZ Imigration Site and went through the quick points check and got 140 points. So far I'm about half way through and I've got 130 points which doesn't seem to agree with the quick points check. I've completed the sections where I would get points, however my Partner doesn't seem to be registering her points even though she has got a degree which would give me 140 points.......um!

Also, is it easier to get a job offer and then apply or apply and then get a job offer?

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Thanks
Paul and Angela.

Hi Paul and Angela

Welcome to the forum. Stupid questions are more than welcome (although, in this bureaucratic minefield I don't think there are stupid questions!) - someone on here will have an answer for you!
I can't answer your question on the EOI as I'm a Kiwi and hubby arrived here with PR by partnership route.
Good luck with it all.

I take it you are completing the EOI online - I would suggest completing the whole thing and then checking the number of points you have been awarded, maybe it is holding back from awarding the points until you've added all the info. If they're still missing when you've finished it - phone and ask.

Re: apply then get a job or get a job then apply... it's not really a case of which is easier, they are just different. It is quicker to get PR if you have a job .. but it is easier to get a job if you have PR. Either way is workable .. if you're not in a hurry you could apply for PR first and then see if you can find a job while you are waiting. If you're desperate to move you could come for a look-see/job-hunt and speed the whole thing up.

Read a few stories about how others have done it - then you might get an idea of how you want to approach it. For me it involved a fairly long process of consideration - I don't rush into much! This forum is a great tool - everytime you think "I wonder how we should...?" - search it on here and see what others did, then make your mind up.

Best of luck with your application,
Dawn

complete all of the EOI. sometimes odd bits like passport numbers or other random stuff stop it registering.

welcome to the forums!

Hello! don't worry, there are NO stupid questions here. At least the questions I've asked that felt stupid at the time were all answered with a smile and miles of information.

I've not had to do EOI myself, but from what I hear it can be a very fiddly business, but patience and care are certainly rewarded - and, if you don't quite get the points as high as you want, there is still a good chance it'll be selected, and then the "bonus" info like your OH's degree will help sway the case officer :D

Good luck guys, welcome, can't add any more than has already been said about the EOI. Fill it in throroughly, cross every t and dot every i, it is amazing how you can actually miss something. Like any exam - check and check again.

Steve - and Happy New Year too.
