Does anyone know if you have an unlimited returning residents visa (the one you get after two years in country), if you can be refused entry ever for any reason or if you really are entitled to always come back at any time in the future? No issues now but concerned if traveled away and tried to come back and was sick at the time they could refuse entry.
Thanks for any help.

Thats an interesting question.
I checked with our case officer recently and at this present time there is no time restriction on an IRRV.
However, that doesn't answer your question of being sick. I suppose if you were too sick you wouldn't travel anyway and if you did you did make it in to the country how would they know you were sick anyway? My guess is that once you have IRRV that it pretty much means you are a resident in NZ.. Well or ill. Rich or poor etc. For example, if you left NZ and then say, got cancer, but traveled back to NZ a) how would they know? and b) I am sure NZIS has no right to refuse you entry on that ground once residency has been granted.
Would be interested to hear other views.

It is my understanding that Visas are discretionary and can actually be revoked if say you are found to be guilty of a serious criminal offence(slagging off the All Blacks or laughing when the mast broke) or fraud or suchlike. The only surefire way of guaranteeing your status is to go for 'Citizenship' which in itself is conditional and only given if you fulfill the obligations and of your residency permit.A guy I worked with was denied his residency because he had a dope smoking conviction. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
