......qualified carpenter or construction site manager?

Will be 53 this April. Have almost 37 years experience in construction as a 2nd fix chippie / shopfitter, the last 12 years as a site manager in commercial fit-out & refurb.

Visited NZ with OH in 2003 to see my sister who lives in Auckland. Came back, found this forum, and looked into the emigration process. Points total at that time was very high (from memory). Other (family) things took priority at that time and it was so long before I went to post again, that I was "locked out"! Only just re-registered and I was amazed to see some of the users still here who were here in '03!!! Some still in the UK, but most now in NZ (congrats to all of you who made it - :nice1 )

Did a quick reccy on the EOI calculator yesterday and the best I could muster was either 105 with job offer (which I don't currently have) outside of Auckland, 115 if the job was classed as "Absolute Skills Shortage". So, I'd probably keep missing the selection point until the time comes to re-submit an EOI, along with a new fee!

If we're ever going to get up in the air, then I need to move fast due to the age cut off point.

Have just sent my CV to a few agencies and a construction company and will see what comes back (if anything!)

If there's anyone out there in kiwiland who might be interested in offering me a job, please feel free to PM me!

(no point being backward in coming forward is there?!)

Bill.

If you have a job offer and more than 100 points you are automatically selected - having the job offer is the key. I got selected with 115 points and a job offer - which was later reduced to 105 as I had accidentally overclaimed.

Can't help with the job I'm afraid - hope someone else can!

Good luck.

Hi Willow,

If you have a job offer and more than 100 points you are automatically selected

Didn't realise it worked like that. I thought that we would miss the selection cut-off point, i.e; there would be say 700 applicants through the EOI but only maybe 600 selected (the quota for that particular selection date), with the lowest points totals that didn't make it, going into the next draw. That's how I remember it working before, but like I've already said in another post, the old grey matter isn't what it was! :laugh

Will just have to get more CVs out!

BTW, my sister lived in Remuera for a few years until she moved back to Meadowbank :)

Hi Bill. Are you looking at Auckland region in particular? Reason I ask, is that where we live, on the Coromandel peninsular, the building industry is absolutely booming, and guys like you are in short supply. You wouldnt earn Aukland rates, but it is a great place/ lifestyle.
I`m sure there would be building companys up here that would like to hear from you. Suggest you check out White pages and e-mail direct. Or PM me and I can give you some names.
