Not a good way to start the week.....
I've just checked our status online, and we've gone back to 'selected'! Before when you clicked on it it said 'Successfull, blah blah blah' now it just says that we've been selected from the pool blah blah blah. Like I don't know that! :wah
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi Cath
Try giving the NZIS a phone to find out what is happening. They are usually quite friendly. If you need the number just let me know.
I am sure that everything will be fine, and you will get your ITA before christmas.

Hi Nicola,
I've just checked and the 'date modified' hasn't changed which would suggest that it hasn't been changed deliberately. I think it might have something to do with the work they were doing on the site over the weekend

Oh, forgot to ask on Saturday .....
Is it 3 or 4 months you have to return the ITA with all the relevant docs?
Milliemoo ;)
Nicola

You have four months to return the completed ITA once you receive it.
I am still having trouble getting my head around the fact that we have received ours.

There is no way that we can request for an extension for submitting an ITA is there?? cause in the letter from the officer that assigned to you (when u receive ITA) says "if you cannot submit all the necessaries document within 4 months, please let me know". Therefore, I was just wondering if it is actually we have the possibilities that we can request some reasonable more time.

Hi Milliemoo
After reading your message I checked my status and it has also changed from Decision Succesful back to selected!! So after sitting on a decision successful for 6 weeks with the vague optimism that it meant things were moving ahead I feel a little deflated. I think you're right its something to do with the revamp of their website but the decision succesful status can't mean much if it can just be wiped away when they make a few technical changes
Oh well like you said a great start to the week and sorry for being so negative. I'll try contacting NZIS today and let you know if I find anything out!
Good Luck

Milliemoo,
Me too I was selected on 1st Sep then decision succesful now back to selected.
I rang Welly last night and the guy said that there is a massive backlog and that they are still doing some checks :wah
I am really dissapointed as I need to get my PR in ASAP as we will need our passports back for early March as we go to NZ on holiday.

I guess were all on the same boat. Mine has revert back to selected status too.
Let's just hope and pray that NZ would be able to correct this asap.

Jo,
I understood that all UK applicants were being processed by London. When I phoned last week I got through to a Lady, in NZ I assume although I'm not sure where the call ends up, who also said about the backlog etc. As soon as I said it's been 13 weeks already since selection I actually got put through to the UK office.
The Web site status changing for you is a worry though, have you noticed that the selected date has returned though? Mine was missing until the update!!
I think I'll call today and ask who my case officer is, I'm getting a little jumpy as well.
Mark. :P

Mark,
just rang London this morning and got fobbed off with you need to email or ring Welly.
Done that, just waiting bloody annoying though although it is 12 weeks this week for us.
I'll see what reply I get even though I emailed them 3 weeks ago :wah

Rang the NZIS information line today. (01344 716199). I was told that unless I could produce a job offer it would be likely to be January before my ITA will be sent out! I was selected on 1st Sept - it went ot decision successful on 21st Septmeber and now it's back to selected. The lady did say not to worry if it has been selected it will be OK!
I HATE WAITING!

Our Status has reset itself to 'Selected from the pool' as well although I'm not concerned that it is a step backwards as when I was at the NZ Expo in Earls Court I asked the guy hosting the NZIS seminar about the status change to 'Decision Successful' and he stated that the London office was annoyed about peoples status being updated to this when their EOI were assigned to the London office.
I am more concerned that the London's branches timings for ITA's being issued aren't going to be met! If patience is a virtue then the NZIS must be trying to help me achieve saint status!
Cheers,
Chris.

So actually the status change is a positive thing, it means that NZ have had a look??? and then sent it to London as worthwhile continuing with it.
Well thats what I am gonna believe :hopeso

I've just had things explained finally.
Apparantly the checks that were done in Welly weren't as detailed as the Lonndon office check therefore the London office have decided to do more checks on these.
She said I should hear in the next few weeks.

Jo
Time to chime in to ask whether anyone here has any firm experience or report of any phone checking being done with previous employers or universities/colleges at the EOI-checking stage?
I ask because of the idea that London does relatively detailed checking of EOIs. Does that mean phoning employers and colleges, for example, even if that entails calling abroad (with time-zone complications and probabale 'phone-tag' annoyances thrown in)? Or does it just mean a somewhat more through version of simply checking what's on an EOI for classic mistakes (e.g., non-comp-labour market; clearly irrelevant experience; language-level question marks, etc.)? The latter can be done with no phone checking, etc., needed.
Cheers,
Matt.

Jo,
Glad you've finally got some clarification, well done. :nice1
Matt,
I was told yesterday that my ITA would be in the post this week, no phone calls were made that I'm aware of so I can only assume that the checking of the form itself is just more careful. Perhaps they do more checking that institutions are correct for qualifications etc.
I'd be surprised if you get a definitive answer to this, I specifically asked NZIS in London if they would phone an employer at the EOI stage and was told that they sometimes do.
Mark. :P

25th November 2004, 03:53 AM
Thanks Mark and Jo. All the best. I agree we may get no definitve answer, although my guess is that phone-or-mail checking at this stage is done but done rarely. And Jo, I doubt they'd phone current employers without permission, for obvious reasons (this topic has come up before here).
I guess our continued need for patience is in our favour in the end: I for one want them to check my EOI carefully, so that we (and everyone else) are not hastily thown out for something that could fully be explained by us in five seconds flat. For example, the institution that accredits our prinicpal applicant's Masters degree is absolutely on their 'approved colleges' list -- and her degree certifcate has their logo all over it -- but the physical name of the college she did the studying at is different. It's not on their list, but that's because it's the place that is on their list that actually issues the degree. So we put that name in brackets right after the college name. Completely legit., and we can prove it.
So I want them to catch that sort of thing and let us prove it.
Cheers,
Matt.

Sort of on topic:
you know that 'Latest Updates' section to which there's a link when you log in to NZIS, but that usually comes up as an error page?
Well, maybe during the recent online maintenance, it now comes up with a page of info. Part of it says (note my italics):
"If your Expression of Interest is selected from the Pool we will do some preliminary checking and verification to see whether the claims made in your Expression of Interest can be verified as credible and legitimate. We aim to complete our checking within two to four weeks following the selection, but this will depend on how much verification is required and how easily we can check the information you have provided. Then, depending on the outcome of that process, we will either send you an Invitiation to Apply, or let you know your Expression of Interest will not proceed any further."
Two to four weeks?! Was this time frame the result of NZIS copying and pasting some old advice, or is this a new "average" time, given that some EOI offices (at least one, I think) state that they only take around 30 days to verify an EOI?
I ask, of course, cos the standard letters say 6-8 weeks, and recently many folks who have phoned NZIS have been told 12-13 weeks!
Cheers,
Matt.

FYI
I received an email from NZIS informing me that I should not be worried about the change in my EOI status. And she also told me that my EOI has been forwarded to Bangkok branch where it will undergo further processing.
I guess there's nothing to be worried about (at least for now).

You may be right Alex, I think the Bangkok Branch case officers (the one processing our EOIs) want to give us a merry christmas this year. I hope yours would follow through.
Good luck!
