My OH and I are moving to Auckland in the summer and have a dream of buying some land and building a house. :)

Can anyone give me some links to companies that supply 'ready made' houses in NZ? I like the wooden scandia houses in the UK (http://www.scandia-hus.co.uk) - where you pick a design and layout that you like, Scandia then build all that parts off site and then bring all the bits onto the land and assemble it.

I would like to start having a look at plans and layouts, and getting an idea of costs.

NB: Any companies specialising in Eco-friendly houses very welcome (ie well insulated, double/tripple glazed and using solar/wind power for electricity) etc.

Many thanks

Hi there and welcome.

If you mean pre-fabricated houses, then there are several. If you want an Eco home try this link http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~eeh/index.htm and I am sure that some others on the forum will be able to help you out too.

Hi and wellcome. We are having a house built for us but the best thing for you to do is look at this website. It really is brilliant and has helped us a lot. www.buildyourdream.co.nz.

All the best

try these too,

http://www.sustainable-structures.com/
(not quite what you asked about but interesting)

theres also a company here in the south island called versatile buildings and another in Auckland called tristyle. A google search will turn up others. I just got onto the online NZ yellow pages and typed in kitset, lots of others there.

the other thing it may be worth looking into is whether it would be worth or possible to ship the sort you like out here in a container. A 40' container holds a lot and may be a viable option when looking at housing costs.
