Hi - can somebody help please.......( this is probably the first of a hundred questions)..........

We are off to NZ in 6 weeks... we have sold the house and are now frantically packing up, residency status achieved... (phew)!
We leave ol' Blighty on the 21st Feb for Queenstown or Arrowtown S/Island.

Anyway, can anyone tell me how fussy I have to be about cleaning all my shed contents! ( daft Question I know) but I have loads of domestic tools, spanners, screws, nails, nuts and bolts ( basically 25 years of collecting bits and bobs and general crud)
Please don't tell me I have to steam clean everything!

We are using White & Co removers - They are to pack us up - but can I just bung everything in boxes and label it domestic shed contents?

I am not taking the lawn mower or any plants or pots.

Thanks Pete

think normal shed stuff could just be wiped over if needed. they are looking out for wood particles etc. so make sure no scraps of sawdust or earth are on anything. Just make sure there is no organic stuff on any of it. Shovels forks etc obviously need more attention. make sure the boxes and casings for things are clean too.

Hi Pete

Like Veronica says, MAF are looking for soil, seeds and that kind of material.

Although we cleaned all the tools thoroughly and OH lightly oiled some of them to stop any rust. Just take extra care for anything that's been near a garden or woodworking tools. You could use Jeyes Fluid and oil after.

I wouldn't just bung it all in, make a list and write on the box (or your movers should) and separate any garden tools from screwdrivers, nuts and bolt etc, then if MAF want to look, it's all in one box. You don't have to be anal about it, but it will help this end and hopefully cost less for your inspection too. :D

I wiped everything clean that came from the shed. I did thouroughly clean all the garden tools and spray-painted them as well. Had no problems with the MAF!
