Does anyone know of any groups running on the North Shore for new immigrants? I'm feeling pretty isolated and concerned about the move here at the moment (see my posting re dreadful housing) and it would be good to meet up with some like-minded people for a chat and some mutual encouragement. :hopeso

Jo B is right, you should start a new thread inviting folks to a get together.
We're just about to have our 2nd get together of folks from the north(ish) of England. The first one was really successful - the 2nd one shows all signs of going the same way.
We're still over here (as you know) but it's a real moral booster being able to talk to other folks in the same situation.
Go for it - even if only a couple of others turn up (which I'm sure won't be the case) - it'll be worth it.
Have you read the thread about the recent gathering in Christchurch. Folks were paniking it would be a 'non-event' ..... over 160 attended and they had a ball.
Go on - what have you got to lose?

meanwhile, know any dirt on rangioto college? local schools? we're not just coming with future bond, james, but a grumpy 14 year old girl...

Thanks Linda..
I'll pm you as suggested. Look forward to talking to you.
Leslie...
Anything I can do in the way of info etc. I'll gladly help. All I can say about Rangitoto college is that it has an excellent reputation here and my 17 yr old who went for a few weeks before it broke up for year end exams absolutely loves it there. He has made plenty of friends there and it is in a lovely setting with views of the Hauraki gulf and Rangitoti Island....The school itself is very strict about who gets in there and you HAVE to live in the zone (which is what restricted us so much when looking at houses) so it's a good idea to get on to the college and ask for a map of their zone before deciding on where to live.
