Worried as huge commitment and we have very little savings as hubby out of work for two months last year!

Dont want to miss this opportunity of a lifetime!

EOI's sound brill, yet expensive .....
Been suggested to do a work to residence ........
Also advise to just get out there on visa's .... do you still have to get medicals for just a visa to get out there ?? how long would it take to get work visa for my hubby once out there ??

HELP!!!!!
bewildered by all the options ....

I think (can't quite remember) that you only have to get a medical if you get a visa for more than a year, but then if you want to stay longer, you'll have to get a medical sooner or later. If you go on NZ immigration website and look up working visas it'll tell you, but I'm pretty sure it's a year or 18 months. However, it could be a false economy if you then end up having to renew your visa and having a medical.

It's a pretty expensive business whatever, I think. You'll still have to pay for a work visa and an open work visa and student visas too if you have kids.

Sorry!

Just looked it up:
How to get a medical certificate

If you need to prove you and any accompanying family are in good health, you must each undergo medical examinations and tests in order to complete a certificate. The evidence that you supply depends on how long you intend to stay in New Zealand.

Staying for less than six months

You do not need to provide a medical certificate.

Staying for more than six months but less than a year

You must provide a completed Temporary Entry X-Ray Certificate (NZIS 1096) PDF [69KB]. This must be completed by you and a radiographer or radiologist.

Children under 11 years of age and pregnant women are not required to submit the x-ray certificate.

Staying for more than a year

You must provide a completed Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate (NZIS 1007) PDF [401KB].

Your Medical and Chest X-ray Certificate forms must be no more than three months old at the time you lodge your application. Children under 11 years of age and pregnant women are not required to submit the X-ray certificate. However, they are still required to submit the medical form.

In some countries, Immigration New Zealand selects medical panels of registered medical practitioners and/or radiologists. If you and any family are resident in one of these countries, a panel doctor must complete your Medical and X-ray Certificate Forms.

See the panel doctor list for details of the appropriate panel doctor for your area.

Sharon,
can be cheaper to apply for work permit and have xrays etc. in NZ so you could go out on visitor visa and apply for work permit when you get there

AM i right in thinking that we would have to say we are going out there for 6 months only ?? would that avoid us having the xrays here ? i was told that you may have to show you have a certian amount of cash in your account to prove you can keep yourself is that right too ?

Any ideas how long we would have to wait for the work permit to come through ??

Hi

work permits if you wait and get there early are issued there and then. You only need an x ray if you have come from certain countries list on their web site (countries with TB) We did not have to prove we had any money just that we had a job with income to keep us whilst we were here.

Its very simple to get a work permit with a job offer, your employer has to fill out their form and you fill out another along with your job offer. If you go the work to residency way you will have time to submit your paperwork and then save some money for paying when its time to do the full medicals and pay for your visa once you have been accepted.

Good luck
