Hello, all!

I'm new to this board, and also new to Nelson. My partner and I moved to New Zealand from San Francisco in early October. Originally, we moved to Wellington but we've now settled in Nelson.

We made friends very quickly in Wellington, but now we're starting all over again in Nelson and don't know a soul here.

Just wanted to say hello and see if anyone else on these boards is in or planning to head to Nelson. I can also answer some questions about both the Nelson and Wellington areas if anyone is considering them.

Nelson is the place we initially visited in our first trip to New Zealand. We like the location (its proximity to three excellent national parks is one bonus) and the general feeling of the place. It's a laid back beach town with a creative community (important to me as I'm a photographer). The houses aren't exactly cheap, but buying is much more affordable here than a city like Wellington. We actually liked Wellington very much, but we moved to Nelson for the better weather (sunniest area of NZ!), more relaxed pace and just because it makes us happy to be here. :)

We've been around NI, but not the South, yet. We are really looking forward to a trip down there...someday! :D Glad you found your niche!

Welcome to the forum and lucky you living in Nelson! On paper that's our dream location but we're visiting in April to work out the reality of it - not too many IT jobs for OH there unfortunately but we're considering running a business so our options are open!

May ask you more questions nearer the time.....

Loved the "Hot Rock" pizza bar when we were there and Bill from Greenacres Motel did a fantastic job sorting out our hire car :cheers
