Does anyone know of any budget accomodation in the Coromandel penisula? Either motel or anything else for that matter - bar camp sites, weve decided we dont like camping anymore - espcially with the recent weather on the North Island..
Just had a rather scarey price of $200 per night quoted at one place, thinking maybe half that.
We are planning a mini road trip around the North Island, heading to Coromandel then down to Tauranga, then Rotorua and Napier/Hastings, then home with A N Other stop on the way back to Auckland.
We were just going to wing it on the Motel front, as I dont really want to research and book that many motels. Will it be OK to find places to stay on the road or is that a silly idea at this time of year.
Cheers

For Rotorua you could try http://www.rotoruathermal.co.nz/, not stayed there yet (going in a few weeks) but its a step up from camping, and may be a bit cheaper than motel.
http://www.weekendescape.co.nz/petfriendly.html, this might be quite useful too.
Just remember its Auckland Day on Mon 28th Jan, and Waitangi Day on 6th Feb, those weekends might be extra busy...

It may be a bit more cramped than you're looking for, but I'd try contacting the YHA http://www.yha.co.nz/NZHostelsandTravel/FindaHostel/CoromandelandBayofPlenty/Coromandel/
often they'll let a family book out a dorm room, and it'll probably work out quite affordable.

Top Ten holiday Parks have rooms and cabins as well as camp sites. They seem reasonable rates too, and have one on the Coromandel.

When are you planning on coming up this way? (Whitianga). We may be able to put you up for a couple of nights, as we have plenty of room. PM me if you want more info.
