Stock up with duty free at Auckland airport before you go through passport control. You can bring in 3 litres of spirits each, any more and you'd have a job getting it through the xray machines :laugh

Be careful.. check out NZ prices first - there was a documentary on here in NZ a few weeks ago which basically investigated the price of booze in Duty Free shops compared to those in town etc... many of the downtown liquor shops were cheaper on many products!
