Hello all,
After lurking and reading for a while, thought we should register.
My wife and I + 3 kids are planning to move to NZ and are working on getting the points still. I am taking a HND for the points and hope to apply this summer. - still concerned a little as we have 115 points IF the accept my work experience against the HND.
We have all sorts of plans, but waiting patiently for it all to happen is hard - I'm sure many of you have been through this.
So, Hi to all and apologies in advance for the many dumb questions to come this year.

Hiya Rusty, welcome to the forum!! Don't worry, we're a helpful bunch on here. Good luck with the HND, don't worry too much at the moment, just concentrate with getting on with that. As for the points, they still go down to 115, just depends on your profession and if you are "attractive" enough to them.
All the best
Steve - not long to go now.......

Thanks for the welcome.
I am hoping 115 gets us in - otherwise spent much time and money trying.
Will see what they say in a few months or so. If not, we go and get a job and try again.

Hi Rusty - don't worry, there are no dumb questions here.
First off, use the search facility to see if any of your topics have come up before, or ask away and there will be loads of people who have been through what you are going through, or else can point you in the direction of some helpful links.
Good luck with the studying

Hi Rusty
Welcome. Good luck with the HND. I know it's hard work, particularly if you're holding down a job at the same time. (Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt). Hopefully all your hard work will pay off.

Yes Pinkpiggy, job and study - given up most of the rest of my life.
I am tempted to apply after 10 units (HNC) as this has the same number of points - would it make any difference to how my EOI may be viewed?
Will continue to full HND in my own time then.

Hi Rusty and http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/signs046.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org) to you and your family.
I hope that everything goes well. I see that you're currently in Herts. There's a few of us meeting up this Sunday in Redbourn (The Chequers at 1 p.m.), the link for the post is here (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7441&page=4&pp=10), so feel free to pop in. The more the merrier.
Hopefully see you on Sunday.

Dave - what is it you are studying in?? I take it you are applying under the skilled migrant category. When I applied, there was no difference between the points with HNC/D may be worth checking. But if you can go for the HND it is better for you I suppose.
I have an HNC, but got 15 years plus experience in engineering behind me.... didn't bother going for my degree in the end, had to start earning!

Hi Stevie
I'm taking Business marketing and management because this was on the list and also relevent to work (they are paying some as well). Best description of my jobs for the last 10 years is sales manager - I hope the marketing - business - sales connection gives me the bonus points!

Hi Dave
It shouldn't make any difference as to how your EOI may be viewed. OH only has a HNC and he is the main applicant. We still got 50 points for having a basic recognised qualification.
How many extra units is it for the HND? Is it 4? I did a HND first and continued and did an extra couple of modules at Uni (nightschool) to gain my Degree.
Good luck with everything.

Hi Rusty! I am not familiar with HNC/HND but for us in the US the difference between an Associates (AA) and Bachelors (BA) Degree was huge, as NZQA assessed an AA at level 5 (50 points) but my hubby's IT work requires a Level 7(BA, 50pts) to count for work experience and bonus points. :( I hope your situation is different, though!
Welcome and good luck!

There are 6 extra units - should give me something to take my mind off of my EOI when we apply - I am not good at waiting...

Well, finally finished the HNC part and have completed the online EOI.
Just checking the last few details (again) and then it will go in.
115 pts - no job and only a small chance of getting picked. But we will be sitting with crossed fingers, 4 leaved clovers, etc.
Hope the work experience is relevent, do they expect it after the qual? We will see.
If anyone has any similar experience, please let me have the advice, the EOI should go in tonight/tomorrow.

I know Arlesey from Football matches, and the Heath is as you describe it, - great place at the weekends.
Still hoping that ChCh is as good as I remember otherwise I will miss this place.

Don't give up hope Rusty, we were in a similar position with 125 points and no job offer. Thought we had little chance but tried anyway and surprisingly got selected. You could easily get lucky, and if not you could always move to NZ on a visitors visa and get a job. That will boost your points up considerably. Lots of people do it this way, if our house sells before residency comes through we'll be moving earlier. Depends how badly you want something:) Good luck, I hope things work out.
