We're a family of 5 coming over at the beginning of March for 6 weeks, doing the camper van thing etc. What sort of temperatures / weather can we expect in Northland, Wellington area and Nelson area? I realise its hard to give typical weather but in order to pack the right clothes ...
Thanks

We went out in early March last year, and were generally warmer than we thought we'd be. I mostly wore Tshirts and a hoodie that often ended up tied around my waist. I wore shorts and Tees a lot, as well. Steve wore jeans and a Tshirt most of the trip, and had a hoodie that he occasionally used. We both brought our big jackets but don't use them. We only stayed for 2 weeks though, and the weather was just starting to turn colder/rainier when we left. On the other hand, everyone keeps saying that summer over there was late so it will stay warmer longer this year
Hope that helps!

We arrived early March last year. It was very warm the day we arrived (about 27 degrees), but in Christchurch, March was quite a mixed month. On the other hand, April was scorching. We were down at the beach most days and by the end of the month, the temperatures climbed into the high 20s and stayed there for a week until it all turned to custard on Anzac Day. I would imagine you'll have fairly decent weather for your holiday. Just remember to pack for four seasons and you'll be fine!

The NZ Tourism Site has a great page on weather (http://www.tourism.net.nz/new-zealand/about-new-zealand/weather-and-climate.html) that lists mean temperatures in every season for each region. That said, one day it can be warm here in the Welly region, and the next day quite cold. The mean for March and April in Welly is 17 in the day and 11 at night, but we've had cold days in the summer and surprisingly warm days in the winter. You'd better follow K&CS' advice and bring layers of clothes so you'll be ready for anything!! :nice1
