as anyone emigrated by going on a torist visa then finding a job and applying later. i dont have all my qualifications as a carpenter to get the points i need to apply before i go, will i be able to be employed and still apply for residencey even though i only have craft certificate in city and guilds? is it a risky way to do this as i have a young family to consider

Hi ya,

We (and others - Hannah for example) have done exactly as you did, arrived, got a job offer, got work permit, got PR and hey presto we are living the NZ life. Sound simple doesn't it? To be honest, for us, it was.

What more can I say?

Good luck.

Hiya
Same for me - would suggest you do a search on posts by Hannah and have a look at some of my early posts.
I'm going back to NZ on Thurs, to live permanently, so this is a very quick post - however just wanted to say there is lots of work there and applying for PR in NZ is a simple and quick process. I don't think it's risky if you know you have skills that they need and you are prepared to work hard and make a go of it.
Would be happy to help more but very busy right now - sure i'll post later when i'm settled and be able to answer further questions....
all the best
hannah

.....................going on a torist visa then finding a job and applying later.
We did that :D

We find the NZIS process is a breeze when you get a job offer and physically here.

Good Luck with your move to NZ :nice1 :nice1

What did you do with all your house stuff while you were out there? Did you put it in storage or get a shipping company to store it until you could ship it out?

We sold our house and store our stuff in a container. We got first month free storage from the moving company. Fortunately, OH got a job offer within a month and we have our stuff ship out without incurring any storage costs.

It depends whether your certificates are recognized by New Zealand, have you had them assessed by NZQA?
