Hi everybody,

Just found this forum a couple of days ago. Really getting a lot of good stuff regarding NZ.

I just had my medicals yesterday and during the physical exam, the examining physician felt a mass in my breast. This mass has been found by another doctor in '99 and I was told that this was a benign one (non-cancerous). After my first ultrasound in '99 I started going back to the clinic for yearly check-ups and the doctor would always tell me the same thing -- it's benign. I was never really worried about it.

Yesterday, the doctor seemed overly concerned about it. She asked me to have it checked again by ultrasound and mammography and tells me I should see a breast surgeon to have it interpreted.

I'm really not scared about the possibility of cancer. I've had a lot of doctors look at the mass and they all say I shouldn't worry about it. I'm more worried about the application. Do any of you guys think this is going to affect my application? Has anyone in this forum been through something like this?

I would really appreciate your inputs.

Thanks,
Marie

Marie,

i noticed no one replied to your question at what must be a concerning time. I hope you have had your results back and everything is ok.

If it were me I would ring the NZIS to ask them what their view is but I imagine it is a case of they will want you to have it throughly checked out first which can't be a bad thing. Also it depends on what ccatagory you a re applying residency for. e.g. if you partner was the main applicant and he/she was in a shortage job they wouldn't be that put off by you coming over with a medical scare. That's what the guy at the NZIS expo told us.

I hope that helps.

Jo
