I have been looking on another forum (not migration related) and soething came up about where migrant want to go in New Zealand.
So I was wondering...
If jobs were no issue (which lets face it - can affect where you want to go) - where would you want to emigrate to within new zealand?

Our number one location is Whangarei because Jenny's family lives in the area. If Whangarei is out then we would like to settle elsewhere in Northland. :)

We had been focused on moving to either Wellington or Christchurch, but in the last few weeks (as we finished our medicals :clap) we have started to toy with the idea of really making a change and heading to Wanaka.
For the last 8 years we have spent a good bit of time in a ski town (Crested Butte for the Americans) and we have come to enjoy being in a smaller resort community. I am likely to be able to keep a good number of my US clients and hopefully pick up new ones around Wanaka. I also have done the ski instructor bit not too long ago. Heck, we've gotten used to living somewhat hand to mouth. :laugh
Since skiing and biking are major parts of our lives, we are willing to trade having a smaller house/less traditional work environment for being right against the mountains.
If we do end up there, we know we will need a guest room for all of our visitors from the forum!

I picked Other NI as, if jobs were no issue, I'd like to live in the BoP area for the weather and the scenery.

Always dreamed of South Island in a fairly small rural town / village as its the peace and isolation i seek, but no idea where i will end up in NZ as like you say work is major factor, sadly i probably end up in a large city due to work..

If jobs and money were no issue :D then we'd love to have a small boutique vineyard in Martinborough, Wairarapa :yes

when i first visited nz over 3 years ago i travelled round quite a lot. everywhere i went i thought "nice scenery" "lovely people" "great place for a holiday". only in wellington did i think "i want to live here"
i'm an accountant and as such can work pretty much anywhere. but OH is in IT so we're pretty much limited to auckland or welly. i consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to live in my dream city.

I like to live in a small town/village. If job or monies were not a issue, we would like to live in BOP or Coromandel for weather and scenery. Hmmmm.................. may be our retirement place :roll :uhoh

Haven't seen anywhere yet that would make me leave this locality.... seen more beautiful places and places with more facillities but here the balance is just right :nice1
But as I said, we've barely scratched the surface here so far....

The job I've been offered is in Auckland, but I would love to end up in Christchurch and couldn't agree with you more Moorf

Matt will be with the Met. Service in Kelburn - but if it weren't for that I think I'd still choose Wellington - seems like there's lots going on (universities, politics, coffee stops for me, free things for the children, the zoo, Te Papa etc) and it looks fabulous in the sunshine (!!). We live on the edge of Dartmoor National Park - fantastic scenery, walks etc and it's very quiet here. So moving to a city / suburb will be an experience in itself. The children (8 and 6) seem to want a bit more these days and I anticipate / hope that we'll find many more things to do on a wet weekend in Wellington than we do here and still be within easy access of beaches, great walks, the South Island, campsites etc.
Of course I haven't been to Wellington / NZ yet and am quite happy to be proved wrong...

We're exactly where we want to be for the moment. Not ruling out moving with OH's job or when we retire (but hey that's quite a few years off yet!) but we've had a look around & love where we live & can't beat it at the mo - not far from the city, close to Kapiti, an hour from the Waiarapa and lovely weekend escapes, what more could we want?

We voted Christchurch as I agree with Moorf - the balance seems just right.
