what happens if your points are wrong???

it came to mind the other day that when we filled in the form - more than a little confused at the time - we claimed for a certain growth sector or whatever it was as hub is an architect and runs his own construction co. as well. if i remember correctly, nothing was mentioned about construction co though and this is actually quite useful in nz! doh. if true they may well smack down a few points. then what?

Leslie,

How long since you submitted? You can change the points online:

"After you have submitted your Expression of Interest, you can make changes to any section of your online form. However you will need to re-submit the form after you have made the changes.

And remember, any changes you make could affect the number of points you are awarded and how your Expression of Interest is processed."

You can leave it for NZIS to drop the points at verification, as long as you are still above the current selection point myunderstanding is that your applikcation will continue uninterrupted.

If you have any doubt it might be worth giving NZIS a ring.

Cheers,

Mark. :P

thanks. feel a bit reassured. we are at 120 so we have a bit of space. feared they might be pedantic and throw the 3-eyed fish back. at least we signed the form (or maybe not?)

as for ringing nzis - i could phone all day! the longer we wait the more scenarios arise. equally worried they will throw us to the nitwit pile. this feels like grade 12 biology exam...

Hi Leslie,

Don't worry - that's why they check everything once they accept your EOI - see if you can change it online.

We had 165 points, however, NZIS spotted that the HNC my partner has is not one of the named ones so we would have had to have NZQA assess them - they just took 50 points from our EOI and said that unless we really wanted to get 165 points or have the quals assessed we were OK - I think that common sense prevails.

Hopefully you've not got more than 20 points based on the growth sector - as long as its over the passmark I don't think they'll worry :cool

As long as your new points total is within current selection point then you have no worries. Anything with 100 and above at the moment.

It might even be the case - even better if so - that you are OK if the adjusted points claim does not fall below the selection point of the particular fortnightly drawing in which you were successful.

(By the way if you look, your courtesy selection letter states the number of points you claimed for and the actual selection point).

Cheers,
Matt.

One possible reason why your actual points are likely to be comapred with your own fortnight's selection point (rather than the current selection point) is that doing so insulates your particular case AND the numbers of EOIs the NZIS was trying to get on that date from 'unfair' variables such as backlogs and long waits. For example, if your claim was for 115 points in an era when they wanted 105+ EOIs to be selected, it may not make much sense to start judging those EOIs against a vastly higher selection point in place at the time when someone actually gets round to verifying your 115point EOI.

Also, in May NZIS introduced the notion of the currency of an EOI to make up for a slightly different kind of case (whereby your 115 claim is found to be shaky but the officer assessing it sees that the 110 you actually qualified for would have been successful in the drawing that happened two weeks later when the selection point dropped to 110). I think that's how that works.

But sorry if any of this is wrong.

Cheers,
Matt.

Hi Leslie,
If you've been selected I wouldn't worry about it. A similar thing happened to us, regarding the fact I had claimed additional points for POL as an electrician. The fact that I subitted my occupation as Turner/Fitter on the EOI. I am dual skilled, mechanical and electrical and didn't really want to rely on my electrical qualifications as a sure way of getting in. Basically I wanted to keep my work options open ! The other thing was that from the time of submitting the EOI online and being selected, one of my daughters had turned 16 yrs, and they needed proof of her English language ability. I had an email from NZIS concerning these points once I was selected. I returned the email with an explanation and listed my electrical quals', gave the details about my daughters exam results and everything else is history.
I'm sure you'll be fine.
If you haven't been selected yet and feel the urge to edit your EOI, don't forget you have to re-submit. Also, you may get asked why you needed to edit your paperwork. This also happened to me back in May when I was paddling around in the pool, as the selection point was still up in the 160 range.

No worries mate

Cheers

John
