Hi

Have been looking at the trade me website and found loads of properties as well as household items that may be of some use to us when we move over.

Anyone had any experiecne with this website ?

Yes - it almost a way of life here :) Just as Ebay, you have to be careful, but we've not had any problem either selling or buying.

Yes,I use it regularly for buying and selling it's become a national icon now.Not bought a property using it but I know people who have.Just check traders profiles and feedback to give you an indication of their reputation.I've had few problems only a couple of issues with items being undelivered but I've not put this down to the trader.I think they were stolen from the mailbox.Digressing a little,we watch for the postie coming now if we're in, usually around 2-30 and go and grab it.It's not unknown for theives to cruise round areas following the postie and steal stuff from mailboxes so watch out. Many people have lock up mailboxes at the post offices to avoid this kind of thing.

Oh lord, don't get me started on TMl, I'm addicted. I have bought and sold (excessively) :laugh and met some great people, and some miseries too.

I collect when I can and haven't had any probs with stuff not arriving or being stolen although I try and use traders with couriers or tracking and insurance when I can't collect. The most expensive item we bought was $5,000 and we asked lots of q's and for extra pics too, as the item was at the other end of NZ. Luckily OH knew what technical q's to ask!

Of course, sometimes items are not as described or pictured, but that's down to bad photography and the seller misdescribing or me expecting too much! :D I'd just sell them on or take them to the charity shop. The one time we paid $150 for something and it was completely not as described, we got a refund and 5 months on they've still not collected the package. It was a heavy duty car jack that was a very cheap chinese copy of the one in the pic.

We've found all of our rentals (3) in NZ this way too and I've furnished our rented old villa with lots of stuff from TM over the last 2 months too.

Carol (aka Tawa superstorage)

I promise to come and collect the trunk soon. :p

You sound like me, I have become an Ebay addict here in UK, buying and selling!!

Do you know how you go about showing an interest from UK on the site ? I tried to register but its for NZ residents only ?

I wondered if i could email some of the people to ask for more info on thier propertys from here ??

I can't remember if you just need to be registered ie. a member to email traders, I think so.

I registered while I was in the UK :o but couldn't buy or sell until I was in NZ and then I became address verified, they send you a pin number etc.

You can buy and sell if you are not address verified, but I'd pass on those traders if I was buying.

Ivy (Singel) may help you out with the verification process as she became registered recently and sold some things. ;)

I bought and sold on eBay too, most of the funds for our removals and trip out here came from that. :laugh I stashed the money away religiously and it soon mounted up.

I dont think there is a facility for directly contacting the sellers, like there is on ebay, you just have to put a question on an auction and take it from there, bit annoying, but its to stop sneaky deals being done..., and to protect members from unsolicited contact.

Just checked the T&C's, you cant contact directly, and you have to live in NZ apparently to register, so not sure how you get round that one, mind you, you dont have to be address verified, unless you want to be...

We've been looking for places to rent on trademe lately (any leads anyone...). Not much help if you are looking (well you can browse) from abroad as you can only register once you have a local addy and phone number number.

I have to say though, as great as it sesms, I am REALLY missing craigslist.org. It totally seems like the type of thing that would take off here, but Trademe has the traffic, and for anything like that to work, it is all about the traffic coming to buy and sell.
