Anybody built a sleepout? Or maybe transported one in? Or know someone who has?

How'd it go? Any useful links or tips?

We were thinking it might work out cheaper than moving, but have no idea of how much it might cost. I didn't want to phone up a company and say we have a budget of X$, and have them laugh me off the phone - so anyone have an idea of budget?

Cheers

Tia

Have a look at trademe as a starting point, usually has a few companies that advertise on there :-)

It's an extra bedroom (or study or hobby room) that's not connected to the house.

We had one on the farm when I was a kid - so no luck on telling you how much they cost!

All I remember was that it was much colder than the other rooms in the house.

My little sister and I went back to nosy around the house about 10 years after we'd moved out and they'd turned the sleepout into a sunroom with big french doors and a verandah - very stylish lol.

We've got one as part of the backpackers accommodation. where are you based, one of the local ones here in Chch is versatile buildings. Have a look in your local yellow pages under prefabricated buildings or kitset and ask them to send you out a price list and brochure. Also as suggested above they are sometimes on trademe or traderpoint.

When we organised it we had double glazing, floor, wall and ceiling insulation put in.

Veronica - that was a great tip about checking out the yellow pages, I've found a couple of websites and even managed to find the odd price - Thanks!

Once I've got a better idea of what we're considering (its a heritage zone so I'm sure there will be rules and regulations), I might be firing a few questions your way about timescales, extra costs and any other tips you've got.

Sizzlingbadger- looked on Trade Me, its amazing what people will sell! But at least I know a base price but we'd really need a company that did the lot or knew a man that did!

Cheers
