Yes, I know I should have done this post ages ago, but well, we've been a bit busy these last few weeks - you know, just the usual kind of things that us migrant types get up to like moving around the whole of the north island in search of our little piece of this New Zealand paradise....... :roll
Anyway - we've finally settled and are currently renting a lovely house in Whakatane (pronounced F*k-a-tarnie - oh how I loved telling THAT to my M.I.L !!) and things are finally falling into place.
And now it's time for me to be brutally honest.........I haven't wanted to post before now, not for any reason other than I have been feeling quite 'down' and (at times) really quite weepy - not exactly homesick, more like familiarity sick and really quite desperate to find the 'right place' to live.
However, I have had my hubby (God bless him) and our good North West Meet friends around me, as well as some newly made NZ friends and they have all supported and helped me in so many different ways, so that now I finally feel that I have turned the corner, so to speak and can get on with living my new life and enjoying it to the full.
New Zealand is an awesome (sorry Diny !! LOL) country and I feel very privileged to be here. Never (not even on one of my darkest, depressed, days) have I ever thought that coming here was the wrong thing to do, I just never realised how much I would miss the familiarity of the life I shared in the UK with my friends and family. Fortunately, they are all coming to visit so that is something to really look forward to......... :nice1
Our container arrived a few days ago and we still have loads and loads of unpacking to do, but I'm feeling happier and more at home with every box we unpack.
Oh - and on a final note - (and just in case you're wondering) would I do it all again?.........categorically yes. And am I glad I'm here?........you betcha !!

Julie and Playboy2, great to see you back online. After all the trials and tribulations of the last few months it is good to see you finally settling. We're not far behind you now - just had the mortgage redemption stuff through and the solicitor has the contract drawn up -- all the best for now.

Excellent. It is good to read a post with such a positive ending. I'm glad that you are making such a go of it. As you say, a house is just a house, but home is what you make it and it is amazing what a few familiar bits and bobs can do to make you feel more comfortable.
Well done and hopefully see you on the forum again soon. :nice1

Welcome 'back' Julie,
You couldn't have described it any better - not homesick, but missing the familiarity - I so know what you mean. We've been here 10mths now (hasn't that gone fast!!) and I still have that feeling quite frequently.
Glad to see that the move to your current location suits you better than PN. Will PM again soon. Are you guys going to the Taupo meet? Would be lovely to see you there.
Hugs to the both of you and - hang in there :nice1

Never (not even on one of my darkest, depressed, days) have I ever thought that coming here was the wrong thing to do, I just never realised how much I would miss the familiarity of the life I shared in the UK with my friends and family.
You hit it on the head - this is exactly how I am feeling now the rush of the finding a home/job etc is over, I am hitting the wine alot too - but have stopped buying it now that Rachel etc have gone - if its not there I cant drink it! :o
I'm feeling happier and more at home with every box we unpack.
Maybe if I had more furniture I'd feel the same - but it really was unrealistic to spend money on crap furniture so we didnt bother - now half a dozen radiators, copper piping and a gas boiler........ now I sure wish I'd packed them!
I just got a rough quote for a new multifuel burner!! - $4000 :uhoh
Any way, Hope that we can visit you someday - it was Robs first choice area - but we couldnt see any work for him (maybe its there?) but for now I am enjoyng being a landowner/horse owner and free education for Jason...and theres so much to explore down here - even if the weathers a few degrees cooler - it was supposed to rain today but so far it hasnt arrived.
speak to you soon :nice1

I did wonder if I was going slightly mad. I haven't been the most cheerfull bunny since Xmas. I been driving OH a bit mad as I couldn't put my finger on it. I don't miss the UK and I like NZ just fine. OH and kids have realy taken to living here with out any problems but I have struggled. I think you've got it about right, I wish my family were all here. I wake up in the morning and see this great view out of my kitchen window or sit drinking wine and watching comets from my deck and I want to share that with family. I thought that my mum and dad now wanting to move over would help with this but now I feel off about my brother being left in the UK on his own.
O'well first step is to get him over for a visit and then find him a nice Kiwi girl....I feel a plan coming together.
