We booked our flights last week and after a short holiday in Singapore we'll be hitting the Auckland tarmac around the 9th March.

I hope to be able to find work and thus gain a permit (then think about residency) but if it doesn't work out we'll have had the holiday of a lifetime.

Recruitment agencies are making positive noises so if everyone could keep their fingers crossed I'd apreciate it.

I'll still be studying with the OU while I'm on my travels which will mean I'll have enough points to go down the EOI trail again in June but I just can't wait to see New Zealand again.

I'm in IT. Most of my experience is as a Project Manager but I've dabbled in a few other disciplines as well. Any contacts would be useful

Can't help you on the job front, but all the best with it. As you say if it goes pear shaped at least you have had an adventure, and also had the balls to give it a go. :nice1

An update!

We arrived in Auckland on the 9th March and settled up in Whangaparaoa, a fairly long commute to teh city but worth it for the beaches.

The first recruitment agent I went to see suggested after meeting her that I should work for them!! A few more meetings later (with the Bosses and other staff) I was offerred a job for which I hadn't even applied! Naturally I bit their arm off and have just got my work permit approved.

We are also using the job offer to apply for residency as this will save the agro of getting work/visitor visas for my wife and daughter. Our EOI was picked out and we were Invuted to Apply straight away. We actually filed our residency app the same day my work permit came through.

One thing I can say is that doing things in NZ is far easier (the exception being police certs, get those before you come) Medicals were done within a couple of days of phoning for an appointment. In teh UK I was told by the approved doc that there was a waiting list of three months!!

Anyway, we are renting a house in Manly on the Whangaparaoa peninsula which is really nice. We bought a campervan with a view to travelling a bit before I start work but unfortunately it blew up on its first outing so it is having some extensive rework being done on it.

So far so good then. We are missing family and friends although Skype helps a bit. I start work soon so that will change things a bit as we have spent so much time together as a family over the last couple of months.

Still to all those who are wondering if its possible to come on a tourist visa and then find work, it can be done and it wasn't that hard. Just taking the plunge is the difficult bit.

If anyone on teh Nth Shore/ Hibiscus Coast fancy meeting feel free to contact us. We have a 2 year old daughter who is itching to make some new friends and playmates and we would enjoy a yarn to share experiences.

Good luck to all of you
