Hi, we’re Nic, Allan, Kristian (10), Lilly (7) Eleanor (1) & Scooby Don’t (4) – and I’ve been lurking on this site for about 6 months. Had first light bulb moment 3 years ago – for it to be shot down over English Channel soon after.
On re-investigation due to arrival of baby bonus – we discovered that tricky possibility of PR if you have a job offer. OH is Sales & Ops Manager for pharma/nutra company. But no formal Quals.

Anyway – due to kid’s ages (cheapish airfares) we’ve just booked a 3 ½ week holiday touring N&S at end of May… ! We’re hoping this trip will confirm our decision to try for the big one.

We’ll also be going to the job fair in Earls Court at end of March …. Is this Expo helpful… Really ?

I have been searching threads religiously – but I’ve never “done” a forum before – so please be patient with my [probably] many and [sometimes] stupid requests.

HI,
Welcome to this great resource...no question is too silly..I've asked lots of basic ones over last few weeks and am amazed how people take the time and trouble to answer sincerely and helpfully.
We're also doing reccy trip , for 6 weeks, in March with 3 kids in tow.....not sure how much we'll achieve but it should give us a good idea of whether we are going to pursue emigrating for sure. We have already spent a year in NZ but a long time ago and before kids so , like you, will be looking from a different perspective.
Enjoy planning your trip and ask those quetions or use the search facility.

Welcome to the forum, Nicky and family.

We went to the Expo in London in October and found it very useful. There are a lot of stands which include Immigration, Banks, Recruitment Agencies, Property Experts, Financial Experts and representatives from various different regions, i.e. Auckland Health Board, Napier Council etc. You would be advised to leave the children at home (if possible) and that way you can really concentrate and talk to the people at the stalls. Be warned though, it does get very warm in there.

One thing to note is that while they are happy to accept your CV (preferrably electronically) it is very difficult to actually get a job before you emigrate BUT not impossible. Obviously it depends on what line of work you're in.

Enjoy your visit in May.

WELCOME!!

The EXPO can be very useful, especially in the early stages as you are trawling for as much information as possible. There are employers and agencies there too, so take along CV's (disk and paper are useful), banks, removals firms etc.

Try and find a meet near to you too, they are fantastic, purely for the fact that you can talk to people in the same situation as you, without getting blank looks, and you certainly learn a lot from them and gain an awful lot of support.

Good luck in your ventures.

Steve

I have never been to an Expo, but I have heard that they are very useful, so the advice from pinkpiggy might make a lot of sense.

Good luck for the trip too, hopefully you'll love it. If you want to meet up as you're travelling around with any of the forum members, just let us know.

There is some advice on CVs too on the forum. There is a good thread at http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9313&highlight=format, but using the search tool at the top will throw up a few more.

And we've all been there, being new members to forums and also asking what we think are silly questions, so don't worry and ask away.

Nicky

I would recommend use campervan as much easy to get around than motel without had to unpack and repack and unpack all of your stuff!! Your children will have freedom to run around the fields after long days of travelling to burn out the energy for early bedtimes!!!! :laugh

Hi Adriana

No, not sure where to go yet - even undecided - should we hire a car or camper van .. ? We'll have 3 weeks and will spend most of it in south island i think.... Blimey... this is all a bit fluid for my liking at the moment :D
