Hi guys

Quick update for those of you stuck in the UK who like to see a bit of the NZ way of life.

Been in NZ for almost two months and can't get over the change in lifestyle for us as a family since we moved here. Today, me and my son William took in a bit of offshore fishing (something we would never have done at home), including a pit stop at the fantastic Motuihe Island).

We went with Dave (owner of the Howick Motort Lodge - diamond bloke) and his son Jake. Here's a few pics of our adventure.

Couple of things to note:

1. The Ray that William managed to land (Jake caught a baby hammerhead shark , but we didn't stop to get the camera out!)
2. You can see how cloudy it is over Auckland (at home in Eastern Beach it was cloudy all day), yet we went out about 20 minutes offshore and had glorious sunshine all day long!
Hmm, now to find me a boat! And some money to buy it!!! :exit

Hey nice one Steve, it's a good day out is'nt it. We will have to go in shares on the boat...How does a dingy sound? :laugh

I am still yet to catch a thing with my new hobby - I succesfully managed to 'throw away' two sets of sinkers, swivels and hooks on Bucklands beach the other day and the fish were grateful of the pilchards I gave them.

:wah

Great photos - will be showing my boys as I'm hoping this is a hobby they/we can get into over there. I'm a bit squeamish regarding gills and guts etc but willing to give it a go for the sake of the views and relaxing ;)

Nice idea jubjub, but it would be a case of houseboat or Gil and not both (she does not like being on the water).

Kim, the hammerhead was about 12-18" long. I thought Jake wass kidding at first when he said he'd caught it, but there it was! I was full of admiration for Dave who managed to pick the hook out of its mouth before chucking it back in.

Dan, what about a joint kayak? :nice1

vixxann - I'd never have booked William as being into fishing, but he absolutely loved it. As for the squeamish side of things, I got away without touching any of the grizzly bits (eg. cutting up and hooking the bait - pilchards, squid etc), but Dave only let me get away with it for the first hour or so.
