Well I thought I would put up a quick post. I am using the school network and I will put up a more detailed post when I am connected at home.

I am so very pleased we made this move. I love the place. We are house hunting at the moment and are going back for a second viewing on a lovely house this afternoon. The school house we are living in at the moment is great as it's summer and the weather here in Hawke's Bay is really warm and sunny. I don't want to be in there come winter though!

We are hopefully having our container delivered tomorrow. It took a little longer than we thought and this was disappointing for the boys as they really want their stuff.

The people we have met here have been so kind to us. The staff I have met from the school have made me really welcome and held a BBQ for us and there my youngest son has found his first friend. Our next door neighbours moved from Scotland last year and they have also been so kind. They gave me a door key to their house the first day we moved in so I had access to the Internet when they were at work! They also gave us a key to the garage so we could borrow bikes and tools if we needed them!

We went to the races the other day and I can’t believe the difference to the UK. It isn’t a cheap day out there if you buy food and drinks etc. Well in Waipuk that was not the case I can tell you! $5 each to get in (for the adults. Kid’s including the 13 year old, free) All of us were given an ice cold bottle of water on the way in and again on the way out. Free. The local radio station was there providing everyone with burgers. Free. Wow is all I can say, when I think how much we used to spend on a day at the races in the UK….. (OK I know I have a big betting habit…. But still!)

There is so much more I could write but I have to go and see this house….

I will finish for the moment on this note. Am I in the honeymoon period? Yes but I love this place so much even if it tarnishes a little in the months to come I will still love it! (Even though I am still waiting for my home phone to be connected after 10 days!) :D :D :D

Nicola,

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the $5 entry cost - that's cheap for NZ. I found that I am happier overall if I don't compare things like that with "home." Best to focus on the more positive things as much as possible.

Since I have lived in HB for a few years, let me offer one word of advise for your house hunting. For houses on through roads, be sure it's not popular with the local boy racers. Ask the neighbors, or camp out nearby for a Friday evening.

I live in the Napier CBD and although it is fantastically convenient during the day, I pay for it at night. My parents live on the hill and it's fairly quiet.

Congratulations! I'm glad the weather is behaving and you're enjoying it so much.

I think the "holiday" phase does wear off sooner that you like, but that tends to merge seamlessly into the "honeymoon" phase that can go on and on, as long as you find a job, home, friends and activities that fulfil you.

Besk of luck

Thanks everyone. Our container was delivered this morning. It's like Christmas! I'd forgotten I had so much stuff. It was so exciting unpacking some of the boxes. I won't bother with most of it though as we intend to move ASAP. I've bought a BBQ in the sale. What a bargain! I know what we are having for tea!! Well back to the boxes..... :exit

If you go to most fish and chip shops you'll end up eating shark. It's a great fish for that because it doesn't have bones and is quite firm so holds its shape while frying.

Nic

great post - glad to hear you are settling in - we will meet up soon - just having a busy time at the moment - our container arried Thursday most ofthe stuff gone into storage though, been up to Rotorua for the racing this weekend, Emersons birthday on Thursday, down to Welly Friday night and Sat for the racing, then Kev is racing at Palmy on Sunday - so hopefully I will catch my breath somewhere in between!!

Isn't it great to have your own stuff though - I have brought one of the tall chest of drawers we had in our bedroom that held cosmetics and perfumes and medicines etc - keep opening a drawer and just sniffing, it smells 'right' like home!! (Kev says he going to tell everyone I'm a mad woman sniffing drawers!!! :laugh )

Will catch you soon
