Quick question.

My husband is completing his medical stuff here in Canada in order to apply for a work permit before our arrival. I am an Australian citizen so he can apply through the family stream. He is unable to apply for PR until I am actually living in NZ so he will travel with a work permit then apply for PR once we arrive together.

My question is whether or not he is going to have to undergo another full medical (chest xray, etc) for his PR application. Would it be smarter for him to just travel on a visitor's visa then apply for his work permit and PR upon our arrival? Not sure how long it would take him to get a work permit once we arrive as we are hoping to be able to work fairly quickly upon our arrival.

Any info appreciated!

think its the medical that only has a shelf life of three months..... or is that the police report. hmm someone out there confirm this for me.

If it was me I would do it here.

My understanding is that if you've submitted a full medical in the past two years you don't need to redo it, but I'm not certain on this.

I have the thought stuck in my head that the type of visa (or length of job offer?) will affect whether or not he will need another medical for PR. I hope some comes along with definitive answers soon!

I believe that any visa 12 months or longer requires a full medical, wether PR or work. Hope that helps.

A visitor visa does not require a medical. A work permit of more than 12 months does require a medical, and PR also requires a medical. You can use the same one for both, as long as the medical has been done within the last three months.
Personally, I would arrive on a visitor visa, apply for a work permit (which is very quick to process), then put in for PR within the 3 month timescale of the medical.
