Hi

I read in one of the threads to allow about $1500 per square meter for building a house (excluding cost of land).

Just wondering if a single storey house is cheaper to build than a multi-story one?

e.g. you do not need any stairs, or upper floors, though perhaps a bigger roof.

Section prices seem to be alot less than $1500 per meter so this could be a saving, e.g. by buying a bigger plot.

I suppose a more flatter section would be needed in and in some locations these are more expensive.

curious to know anyones thoughts on this. e.g. is it just swings and roundabouts?.

I quite like the idea of a single level house. easier to clean the windows, and maintain, conduicive to getting older etc.

Hi Rabbit,
You will find this interesting. Bear in mind this is for a flat piece of land and for a fairly standard house. The more complex the house will push the cost up. the size of section does not appear to alter the cost apart from the fact that the bigger the house you have seems to bring the sq metre cost down.

We looked into buy two storey house but now aim for single because of
1. cost of m2 as mentioned above of single v multi.
2. every 2nd storey house we have seen have master bedroom downstair while rest of bedrooms is upstair  Not ideal situations for us as we got two very young children, and we want to be near them!!
