Curious to know how people felt after say spending their first year in NZ and then going back home for a visit, and then coming back to NZ for a second time.

In the 9 months I have been here, I have left and returned four times for business and pleasure, e.g. to the US, Europe (not home), and a couple of trips to OZ.

None of those trips had much impact on me other than arriving back late at night in Wellington from Sydney, it did make the place (Wellington) look like a bit of a tip. Though after a few days, and a bit of daylight those feelings wore off. I must admit it was a nice feeling to get back and be away from the big cities I had visited.

After the Sydney trip, I felt like NZ was equivelant to the outer hebrides on the west coast of scotland, in terms of comparing NZ relative to OZ and the UK.

I'll let you know in a few weeks! I'll be heading back to the UK for a visit after being here for a year.

For me it will be a good test, as I'll be leaving NZ in Feb, probably one of the best months and going to the UK for one of its worst months weather wise.

But I'm looking forward to it despite the gales and the snow and ....... I just hope my plane can land.

i went back to the uk after 18mths sadly to attend a funeral, i found that after being there about 5 days i could'nt wait to get back here, i was'nt sure if this was because of the nature of the trip, however we all went back in august for my eldest sons 21st birthday( god i feel old ) and i have to say we really enjoyed catching up with everyone, family and some very old friends but we all agreed that we wanted to come back home.

I'm going home to the UK for the first time in 5 years this July and I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to it or not.
I have left NZ on numerous occasions since I got here, but only for short business trips or holidays to Pacific Islands or Oz. It was always great to come back to NZ - to circle over Auckland and spot the Sky Tower always made me feel glad to be coming home. Will I have the same feelings when circling Heathrow? I shall have to see...
