HI
Can you confirm the proceedure for a UK driver to drive over in NZ ?
Would my hubby have to apply to re sit some kind of test ? or is it just a matter of applying for a NZ licence when we get over there ?
What about provisional licenses ?? I am learning over here - would i have to reapply too ?
Thanks
Sharon

I think this thread pretty much covers everything you need to know...

EDIT
Just found the other one about learner drivers too.

Just to add to this. Unless you have the full range of licence's on your UK licence you will lose certain classes over here. Should you have the entitlement on your UK licence to drive a 7.5t vehicle in the UK you will lose that entitlement as soon as you convert to a NZ one. To gain it again you would have to resit it.

You did better than me. I got 75%. Got some of the speed approaching an accident type ones wrong and the distance you're allowed to park from an inter section wrong!
Can anyone explain this one though as I'm thick!
When turning right from a two laned road into a one way street that has two lanes, you must turn into the:
right hand lane.
left hand lane.
lane that has the least vehicles.
lane that gives you the most direct route.
The correct answer is ............ I'll post in a bit :)

right hand lane?

Yup, the right hand lane - that lets people turning left from the other direction turn into the left hand lane without waiting for you.
I only got 80%.... my nine years away from NZ roads have obviously had an impact! At least I still have an original NZ licence squirrelled away

Yes, you're right! Smart ****'s ;)
I see, you let vehicles on the other side of the road turn into the left lane...how polite and considerate you lot are! I like it!

I got 88.64% (39) right. :D However, I'll probably forget the answers though for the actual test. :roll
As a matter of interest, is there an advanced drivers group, similar to the IAM (http://www.iam.org.uk/) in the UK? I know I must seem a glutton for punishment, but I found it very useful going for mine in the UK. :D
ED: I can't find anything searching the forum, but I've found www.advancedroadskills.co.nz , but is this the only one? Does anyone know whether this is similar to the IAM?

I'm not sure...
I didn't see any when I was over there recently.
I did see lots of 'interesting drivers' though :laugh :laugh :laugh
Maybe there's an Institute of Interesting Driving. :D
Still, sooo much better than UK, IMHO

We agree! I think this puts us in a small minority on the forum! A lot of people I know (off forum as well) moan about the driving here, but as I've mentioned elsewhere, it's not any worse than I experienced in Italy and OH compares it VERY favourably to London and surrounds!!

Good. I like being in the minority. Much more interesting ;)
Driving in NZ in a dream IMHO. There's nobody there! No queueing, no traffic lights on roundabouts (!), in fact very few cars! For example, I was talking to 2 old dears at one of the vineyards, they were locals stocking up for Christmas (excellent!). She was complaining about the recent increase in traffic locally.
"Before I can pull out of my drive onto the highway I now have to look to check to see there's nothing coming...there never is, but I have to look all the same just in case", she said.
I nearly died on the spot :) Absolutely brilliant.

:nice1 If there's two of them, does one check the left side and the other the right side? What happens if one of them is off sick that day? :laugh And they may look, but can they see?...
