Hello
I decided to do a bit of pre-budgeting so I had some idea of how much the immigration process might cost as a minimum. I've looked through lots of people's threads to compile this information, many thanks ;) as well as been through the official fee finders etc. Are there any UK or ex-UK people who have a better idea on the medicals that's a recent costing? Also - do people think or know I've missed something (I'm sure I have) :D. Any thoughts, advice would be welcome whilst I go and talk extremely nicely to my bank account :o
* Degree to be NZQA Assessed, I can't find a recent costing for a full assessmeng for this yet... Have emailed them. Anybody?
* EIO Submission, in the UK, £110 ($315 NZ Dollars) according to their site
* ITA Fee £525
* Police Check £10 each
* Medicals - seems to vary massively! £100-£300 each?
* Other - Solicitors for Documents, stays in London possible? £200 ish
* Migrant Levy = 2 x £106
* Shipping = depends on how much we take, won't be much in our case hopefully.
* Flights = £1800 ish by the time we get there.
I'm not even totalled it up, I'm too scared. What do you think? Realistic or completely pie in the sky? :p
Thanks

There are all those other costs to consider....
e.g. temporary accommodation, rental deposits, removal costs within NZ - you could get bumped out of your rental property after six months incurring double costs on e.g., internet connections, sky/cable connections; buying a dehumidifier, phone connection costs, buying a new car, insurances, mail redirection, the list goes on, I am sure other people will be able to add to the potential hidden costs.
In short, be prepaired for some form of contingency - this includes keeping open the option of returning home should that be required e.g. death in the family, or you have decided you just dont like it or feel trapped.
We recently got bumped out of our rental after six months, it cost us $2250 to move 30 kilometers and because of a misunderstanding of the lease we are paying rent on two properties, so all found with everything a $6000 bill we had not budgeted for. If it happens again, then we are going back home, thus a potential triple wammy.
Watch out for the sales pitch on rentals, six months fixed and monthly after that on a rental, just to be asked to leave at the end of six months as the owner wants to return, sell-up etc. Or you need to escape a rental contract due to threat to family health etc.
In summary, there can be many snakes in the grass, and one should make contingency, as it can be difficult to predict the future.
Keeping ones options open, whilst here has some upsides and downsides and also associated risks.

Thank you for the wise words! ;)
Currently I'm just looking at the costs to leave the UK, I will add up the NZ potential costs separately I think, when I've got a better idea of what things could potentially cost at this end! I'm trying to break it down to ensure we budget with enough of a buffer to make things do-able. Thanks again.

I think medicals will vary a lot based on the areas you live in.
Ours were done in Gatwick .. £253 for adults, £171 for a 11 yr old, £54 for a child. That was all-in including chest x-rays for 3 of us and bloods for 2 of us. They were done last September.
I did get a few other quotes from within London and they were more expensive and in a lot of cases did not include chest x-rays which they expect you to get from somewhere else.

Here's the page for all the NZQA assessment costs:
http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/for-international/qual-eval/international/fees.html
The Pre-assessment Result application fee is NZ$75.00.
My partner had medical with Dr Grant in Manchester (Dr Million's surgery) for £265 all in - but the initial appointment fee of £110 can be shared by two people if you are a couple, I think

I had the $75 pre-assesment and that was fine... no need to get the full assesment. Don't go for the full assesment unless they ask for it!

I'm not even totalled it up, I'm too scared. What do you think? Realistic or completely pie in the sky? I think it's a good thing the costs are spaced out a bit, if they wanted it all at once, my head would explode!
