Hello,

Like many people on here I'm moving to New Zealand shortly.

I know about form P85 for letting Revenue and Customs know of my departure for tax purposes but what do I need to do to notify National Insurance if anything?

My employer here after he stops paying me will obviously stop the automatic NI payments, is there anything I need to do?

Help? Confused and don't want to make an expensive mistake or get taken to court or whatever.

Cheers,

Hugo.

Good one fish, I'll keep an eye on this thread. I would have thought a search online would enable you to be able to do it via the pc, not sending silly forms off. Try online.govt.uk, should put you on the right track on there.

Hi Steve,

Looked on the National Insurance website but it's pretty cloudy and they obviously would rather you made the error in their favour!
Just wondering what other UK migrants have done?
Cheers,

Hugo.

Hugo,

I've been living out of the UK since 2003.
As far as I can remember, I asked the National Insurance office for a forecast of my future pension. See address below;

http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/home.asp

I then decided that I would join the system of the country that I am presently living in. You can however in some circumstances continue to pay voluntary contributions, which will entitle you to a State Pension when you retire at age 75 :D Again see address below.

I hope that this helps.

Here's a pretty thorough guide that I have found, but please be aware that HMRC are working on updates to these guides and this may include the NZ one.

Scroll down to the NZ link and a PDF opens up

Hope this helps
