Well, that was strange...
Went to have our medicals yesterday, and got a bit of a laugh\cry situation - Doctor got wrong results for both my weight and height, which lead him to calculate a wrong BMI - he wrote me 3cm shorter and 5kg heavier than I am - so now I need to have more blood tests done
hopefully all will go well - he also explained that in my case BMI can not be accurate (large muscle mass) - but I am not totally at ease about the situation.

Also - another thought crept in during the night - We are going to NZ on visitors visa, and I got some interviews in place, the plan is to get a job offer and then apply for the work permit.
Only then they'll see our medicals were done at home, with a date that's prior to us entering NZ - will that mean to NZIS we had this plan in motion when we arrived on a wrong kind of visa ? Will they then get mad and send us away?

Seriously thinking about getting medicals all over again in NZ after job offer provided :(

Anyone in that situation before?
Thanks..

We had our medicals done here NZ as they are only current for 3 months so you would have to have them done anyway as the process is so long. Plus its cheaper than the Uk. Your doctor sounds well dodgy re height and weight he can't change those to suit him. We came over ona visitors visa then got jobs and applied for work permits.

I personally would get my medicals done again in NZ. The medicals are reasonably cheap in NZ, and at least NZIS would not have their suspicions raised by you presenting a medical from elsewhere.
Your own doctor sounds a little odd - why would he have changed your height and weight? Was he trying to get you to pay for additional tests?

That was my first thought too.

Re timings, we came here on visitors visas after having had our medicals and our police reports done. No problems. As long as you have a return or onward ticket then you're allowed to come for a holiday here during the processing period -there is nothing that says it isn't allowed or frowned upon, as far as I am aware.

At the same time, do make it look like you're on holiday as you arrive, and not like you intend to set up home!

Kerry, Angel - I am going to start interviews in about three weeks, and if I get a job offer I want to be able to submit my application for a work permit right away (I am not putting in an EOI right now) - so I think my medicals will still be valid if they're for three months.

Moorf - thanks for pointing that out... We really are coming for a holiday with our packs, tent, boots and all - and we're really planning to travel all over the place, with frequent stops in Wellington for interviews and such.

Thing is - we haven't really started a process of EOI-ITA because we don't have enough points (no uni degree) - so we just got everything together and planning on the come for visit -> find a job -> apply for permit option..
