Hi,

Just got off the phone from London NZ call centre. I have a job offer in place and do not have enough time here in the UK to turnaround medicals. I know you can do them in NZ Quicker & cheaper and was planning to do this as soon as I arrive. The lady has just told me that if the WP is for 1 yr then ok to do them in NZ but if the WP is for 2 yrs then I have to do medicals in the uk prior to leaving? very odd can anyone confirm this information is correct.

Thanks

Cathy

yep it seems to be correct as people coming into the country for two or more years, even those on a working holiday visa are required to have a medical.

If you come into the country on a holiday visa for the 6 months its not required, could you do that an get the work visa once you are here??

Yeah I understand this, just wanted to know why if you apply for 2 yr WP medicals only to be done UK. Woman at NZ house said I can't do my medicals locally in NZ for 2 yr permit?? they must be done in UK, I don't understand why if you can get them in NZ for 1 yr WP why you can't get them done in NZ for 2 yr WP?.

you dont have to have them for a one year work permit, and I think its something you have to have BEFORE you enter the country so that if any major bad things healthwise are lurking then they know about them before you get here and become a liability. There is a blanket rule for all countries with things like that although to be honest its probably not an issue with countries like the UK where we do have a health service, swaying and rickerty as it is. But rules is rules and if they say thats what happens you just have to go with it.

My understanding is a work permit up to 1 year from a country TB free does not need a medical.

But nothing suprises me.
