Hi, we are hoping to move to NZ in the next 2 or 3 months, I decided to do a Pre medical just to make sure everything is ok before we go for the real deal.

Everything was ok except for my liver and Cholesterol,

Liver
ALT 55 Range 3-46
AST 32 Range 10-33

Cholesterol 5.0 range 2.8-5.2
HDL 0.8 Range 1-1.6
LDL 3.5 Range 2.0-3.4

How strict are these people, will they have a problem with such minor variations or will it be acceptable. We expect the ALT may be due to me not having a spleen. ( I Lost it in a motor cycle accident) I don’t require any medication and am rather healthy BMI=29 and don’t drink often maybe once in 2 months.

Gamma Glutamyl Transferase. The acceptable range is 7 - 54.
Total Bilirubin. The acceptable range is 3 – 17.
Alkaline Phosphatase. The acceptable range is 30 – 130.
Alanine Transaminase. The acceptable range is 0 – 35.

HTH helps. I know that a few forumites have had the same probs but most have been successful in the end.

Hi Peter,

I am happy to help you with an answer for this.

I put my invitation to apply in November and they contacted we within two weeks to ask me to get a re-test.

At the time my ALT score was 116!!

I had a re-test in December and it was down to 90.

The doc thought it was probably down to some anti-malaria tablets I took about 18 months ago and the fact that I had a cold.

Anyway.. I was told on Monday that we were Approved!!

So I very much doubt your ALT score will even raise an eyebrow....

Thanks guys

After all the work and getting this far, the last thing you want is to be turned away at the door. As I said previously, I am in pretty good health but still would like to be sure I have done everything possible in order to expedite the whole PR Process. The last thing I want is to delay my application due to minor medical problems which I could have sorted before the medical.

Hopefully all this will be over soon :nice1

Hi Peter,

Just to be sure, drink no alcohol and drink Milk Thistle, before your medical. This wil help flush through your liver before your formal medical.. I suspect your liver will be fine by then..

Also get your GP to give you a note about your results and also send in you pre-medical results when you send in your ITA (It can't do any harm!!) This will show they are improving or at least not increasing hopefully.

It’s a medical dilemma!!!!!

I have my medical next week and decided to see if there was an improvement on my ALT, I’ve been using milk thistle for a month now, so I really expected and improvement, unfortunately everything is even higher now. to make things worse, my Cholesterol is also out of range now.

I don’t understand why, I have been eating a lot less meat than normal and only lean cuts at that.

Liver
ALT 76 Range 3-46
AST 68 Range 10-33

Cholesterol 5.7 range 2.8-5.2
HDL 1.0 Range 1-1.6
LDL 3.9 Range 2.0-3.4

Atleast my HDL is normal now, up from 0.8 :clap


I have a Job offer for 1 April and need to fly mid march, what are my chances of getting the work permit so quickly with these numbers?
