Hi There
We have been here for almost 1 year, and realise that under Family Quota we need to be here for 3 years before we can sponser them. Is there any other way we can get them here before that, they will have enough to buy a place outright and will receive uk pension.
Thankyou

Hi Westies,
You may find this thread interesting. The info that could help you is in the latter part of the thread. If I was you I would pm Avalon, she will not mind and she has an expert knowledge on most things NZ.

We're in the same situation and Sept this year is our 3 year anniversary. After advice from Avalon, and from concerns I have as to their medicals, I have advised my parents to wait until they have their visa in their passports, or at least an approval in principle, before even putting their house on the market.

My parents will be coming with enough to buy outright and live off what's left plus about 9 pensions :laugh so that end is sorted, I'm just worried, what with all the increased blood tests etc, that the medicals might be a sticking point. They're both v. fit and healthy but Dad on heart tabs etc so not sure what the medical view is on that. Apparently even if they commit to having comprehensive private medical insurance here that won't help....

*fingers crossed* They're both desperate to get back here after leaving a coupe of weeks ago. If I'm honest, I'm quite desperate for them to get here too after hearing their tales of "back home"

I see you've already read Av's thread!

The link to Avalon's thread is really helpful, but in a quick answer to your "is there any other way we can get them here before that" then it's a "probably not"

Depending on their age, and savings they may be able to apply under their own steam (through an investment visa) but until you've been resident for three years, you're not an eligible sponsor:

And not only do you need to have to have a residence permit, but you must also satisfy the criteria of being in NZ for a certain portion of each year.

It seems really tough, but it's simply a safeguard that you won't bring elderly people into NZ and then leave them here with no support while you jet off somewhere else - sad as it seems, that has happened!

Plus, you need to "earn the right" to sponsor others into NZ - it's not an automatic right to "share your citizenship" and the three-year period is a way of you proving you're committed to NZ. It's tough when you want your parents with you asap, but then again three years can fly by when you're adapting to a new environment.

Good luck

Yes, I believe Avalon was ticked off for trying to get her parent's applications in a few days before the exact 3 yrs anniversary!! So they are obviously strict on timings......

Hey there :)

That was our "IRRV" application where they threw a wobbly. We cant sponsor M+D till this time next year. 31st decmeber this year to be exact!

Thanks guys
It was worth a try, and has already been said, time does indeed fly, we have almost been here a year already, so only two more and they will be eligible.
They are here at the mo, and return to the UK in March, they have fallen in love with the place as I knew they would, kids love having them here too !
In the end what will be will be!!!
Thanks again
Westies xx
