We are in a position where we have been offered two jobs, one in Wellington and now one in Hastings, which i believe is near Hawkes Bay, Napier ?? Hubby is a joiner by trade.
Any info on Hastings ??
Have had a lot of feedback on Wellington, but now it is decision time .....
Thanks

Napier and Hastings are both cities in Hawkes Bay (Hawkes Bay is a region).
Napier and Hastings are about the size of a UK town. The two cities aren’t more than 20 mins drive apart, you can easily live in one and work in the other.
There are villages in between. There is one village called Clive, its in the centre between Napier and Hastings.
Clive is quiet, it has a school, 3 restaurants/bars and a handful of shops. The Clive river runs through the village, its used quite a lot by water skiers, jet-skiers on one side of the bridge and the rowing club, swimming pool and rugby club are on the other side of the bridge. Ideal if one person works in Napier and the other Hastings.
Napier is really nice with all its art deco buildings and cafes (gets very busy in summer).
I have to say that it’s a matter of opinion, but Hastings has a reputation for being a little rough! I like the place, nice city centre.

PS very hot summers in Hawkes Bay and lots of Vineyards :D

Hastings will generally have better weather than Wellington, and being smaller, housing is cheaper and parking is never an issue. I think the population is about 55k. It's probably an easier place to start a new life in NZ, and if you get bored you can always move to Wellington later. Wellington is 300km and about a 4-5 hour drive.
