Hi all,

It's now starting to look unlikely that my police reports will come in before my 4 month invitation to apply expires. I seem recall some saying that they submitted the application with everything but the police reports, and just forwarded those separately when they finally arrived. However, I'm reluctant to get medicals done because I don't want them to expire while waiting for police reports. (way way too many xrays lately)

I guess it could have gone either way, but I wish I had ignored the advice of the person that I spoke to at immigration, who suggested that I wait until I received the ITA before beginning police checks. Police checks are much cheaper than a new EOI.

Does anybody else have experience with getting extensions for their ITAs? Are they pretty understanding of these situations? Has anyone failed to obtain a required criminal check, but been able to show satisfactory evidence that they tried?

Wanted to find out what you had to say here before I rang up immigration with the bad news.

:cheers

I would definately speak to immigration - they may be happy for you to send your police checks on as the assignment of a case officer to view your ITA is heavily backed up - we submitted 26th october and are still waiting

They don't provide extensions. What you need to do is to send in what you have, detailing exactly what you have enclosed and what exactly you will be forwarding on afterwards, as well as the reason for the delay.

You need to do this so that you application is lodged ahead of the your deadline. It will then remain with NZI until all the appropriate documents have been received and they will only begin processing once everything has been received.

We were waiting for the Police record and applied well in advance. Instead of it taking a month it took nearer three as the Police claimed that they never received our application (despite having provided receipts for the search charge...).

Anyway... just get it in the post, well organised with a clear covering letter. The rest can follow as soon as you get it and you won't have missed your date.

Yeah, no probs with that, they understand the situation and are perfectly o.k. with you sending stuff later on. As long as they know they o.k.

Just wanted to let you know I rang them up, and sure enough, "no extension" but as mentioned above, file before deadline, and you say in your cover letter what's there, what's still to come. I don't know for sure what happens if your medicals expire after you've submitted your application, but I'd like to think they'd let that slide.

If you're in the position of missing some paper work at your deadline, I'd still recommend contacting your case officer and asking for advice, because policies change.

I don't think your medicals will expire once they have been sent in and logged. I am sure that your police checks will arrive before that could possibly happen.

I hope you're right! Previous experiences with 3rd world countries tells me I may never get it. :wah Some good news though, after 5 phonecalls and an email, Canada finally came through. It came in before their 150 day estimate, probably because of the all the calls.
