I hope to be moving to the Auckland region together with my girlfriend Denise in May of this year, providing the ITA is sorted by then. I start work mid June so hopefully will be.

I am not sure as yet where my place of work will be but possibly in the North Shore region. Any advice on properties would be well received?? Our plan is to rent for the first 6-9 months until we are settled.

We shall be bringing our cat with us and I am just beginning to understand the procedures involved. It is probable that we will come on ahead and then send for him. Not sure how easy it is to rent with a cat in tow??

Regards

Hi
Just wanted to say welcome to the forum! :) We can't offer much advice as we are just starting the whole process too! From what I can see on the property websites like 'Trade me nz' rentals are not very pet friendly and generally say 'No Pets'. However, I think some will accept cats and not dogs . We might have a problem because we are planning on bringing our dog :uhoh I am sure you will find a rental that will take pets, you just might have to pay a bit extra?

Hope this helps

Hi Bagpuss,

The North Shore is a big place so it really depends on what you want you want in an area. I suggest picking up a copy of Where to live in Auckland so you can get an idea of what each area is like. When you get here grab a copy of Wises A-Z Auckland street map, hire a car, and drive round.

We live in Milford - lovely area with plenty of shops, nice beach and easy access to the motorway. For rentals round here you are looking at $350pw upwards. As for Milford house prices you can pick up a 2 bedroom unit for $375,000 upwards, a three bedroom house $450,000 upwards.

Rgds.,
Nick.
