Hi all
We are well on track for our reccie (all now booked) and our move (in approx 12 months time) and although we're planning on uppping sticks and heading down if we can't get a job whilst still in the UK, the timing will be about right (hopefully!) for us to go to the March London Expo next year with an aim of getting jobs. Has anyone had success with actually landing a job via the Expo and does anyone have any opinions on how worthwhile it is? We're both in IT.
Thanks everyone :)

Kim and Gareth,
Do a forum search using the tool bar under the headings. There are lots of posts/threads about this....

Doh! Why didn't I think of that?! :o Will do, thanks Gil
Thanks for the tip Stevie. We have been pondering Seek on and off for a while and there seem to be quite a few jobs we could both go for - its looking positive anyway :)

Good luck. The expos are ok if you want to get general information, but expect to be disappointed if you expecting masses of companies vying for your signature!! LOL
Once is o.k., twice the limit really.

We went to the London expo late last year. Hubby works in IT and had a verbal job offer within a week from large IT company in Auckland, all arranged by telephone interview a few days after expo. If you have already submitted EOI, and have skills on shortage list, you should not find it too hard. We are moving aprox May now formal job offer has come through. Getting it in writing took a bit longer due to taking references etc.

We went about 3 years ago before we came over - found it useful for speaking to NZIS case officers (we got there first thing & went straight to their stand since it gets very busy!) and to people in OH's industry - construction & to people from the Wellington area to get more info. We probably spent all of an hour there but the time with NZIS was invaluable.

the october one was much much better than the march one for IT (the march one seems to be quite new and didn't have many employers at all)

Thats great, thanks all. Thats a great tip about the NZIS stand - thanks Sarah :)
We're not expecting to zoom straight in and land jobs (although that would be nice!!) we were just hoping it was generally worth it for getting more info and learning about what companies are after. Sounds like its worth a trip anyhow. At that point we're hoping to be ready to move, so at least if we get anyone who seems interested, we can say we'll see them in NZ in the not to distant future. I just wish it was this March instead of next!! Its true that I have no patience when it comes to waiting to go but, I keep telling myself that good things come to those who wait.....or so we're told ;)
