hi we are looking to move to auckland in feb/ march and are wondering if there is any where to avoid?. we have 2 kids one will need a primary school and the other a play school? we need to be able to get to cbd as andrews job is there. we have heard mixed reviews about the southern suburbs and wondered whether these should be avoided ,but these seem to be the area where we could afford to buy fairly soon?

Yes there are plenty of places to avoid in south Auckland. I'm not going to list them, but take the time to drive around and see what you think. You can generally tell a lot about what an area is like by just driving around it. But you're right, the less desirable suburbs are generally cheaper. It's a balancing act to find a place you can afford and feel safe in.

Good advice from Howie there. I wouldn't presume to tell you what I think should be avoided, one man's meat as they say, and I agree it's best to drive around and get a sense of it. Would be very happy to show you around our patch once you get here, please feel free to PM me!

Definitely agree with the other posters. My partner lived in South Auckland for a while until they moved to Half Moon Bay out east and quote from them "I wouldn't go back to live there myself!" :laugh There are some lovely areas there though but most of them are not that good.

There are neat areas not very far from southern suburbs so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to choose :)
